FAQs

What is Transmission E-Zee Shift?
Transmission E-Zee shift is the leading Multi Purpose, Multi Platform diagnostics tool designedexclusivelyfor automatic transmission engineers. It can be used in the vehicle, on a dyno and on a valve body machine to test and control the automatic transmission and mechatronics.

What functions does Transmission E-Zee Shift incorporate?
Transmission E-Zee Shift has 5 main functions

1. Control of the transmissions solenoids
2. Data acquisition
3. CAN BUS interaction
4. OBD II diagnostics.
5. Control of the RPM and torque of the dyno.

1. Control of solenoids
Which solenoids can transmission E-Zee Shift Control?
Transmission E-Zee Shift is able to control any PWM, Duty cycle controlled solenoid or linear solenoids using a chopper circuit within a closed loop function to perform accurate control. This accuracy is required for all modern transmissions whether they be CVT, DSG or Lepelittier design.

How does this help me?
When driving the solenoids, Transmission E-Zee Shift displays and records the actual current being drawn by the solenoid. This allows the operator to check the integrity of the solenoid and decide if it is functional. A simple Pass/Fail test is performed at thebeginningof a test and thencontinuousmonitoring will alert the operator to a problem. (Usually when hot)

How do I know what current the solenoid should be drawing?
The on screen software will alert the operator if the solenoid falls outside of the expected operating current range.

When can I test the solenoids?
You can use Transmission E-Zee Shift to test solenoids from within the vehicle, on a valve body machine, on the bench and on a dyno.
What if the solenoid fails by a small amount?
Like all electrical devices, a solenoid may draw a value slightly outside of its pre-defined range, usually affected by temperature. We recommend that the test is run at vehicle operating temperature. The engineer must then make the final decision if the solenoid is operable or not.

2. Data acquisition

How does data acquisition work?
Transmission E-Zee shift constantly monitors and records all data received through its input channels. Unlike other testers, E-Zee shift records all data ‘real time’ rather than a ‘snap shot’. This will allow the operator to find failures such as Flare during shifts and tie up which will lead to premature clutch failure.

What data can transmission E-Zee Shift acquire?
Dataacquisitioncan include Solenoid Current, Pressures, Temperature, Flow, Input Speed, Output Speed, Brake Signal, Kick Down Request, Range Switch etc.

Where is this data displayed?
All of the acquired data in is displayed in ‘Real Time’ on the E-Zee Shift pc based software and saved to a graph for comparison.

How do I access the acquired data?
All test data is saved as a report and is automatically displayed on a graph and table from within the software. This graph and the data fields can be used to verify and compare data from a known good unit. The E-Zee Shift has a ‘Look Up’ function to allow recovery of the generated report by various fields. You can print this data.

3. CAN BUS interaction

How can I use Transmission E-Zee Shift with CAN BUS transmissions?
Transmission E-Zee shift is able tointerrogateand display all data running on the CAN BUS. You can view the live data processed by the mechatronics and manipulate sensor address and bit data.

What can I do with this data?
By acquiring relevant data from sensors such as Throttle Position (TPS), RPM in RPM out, Temperature, Range Switch and Kick Down Request, you can manually override the sensor and force the signal to the mechatronics.

How does this help me?

This process allows the engineer to override the CAN BUS sensor information and see if the sensor is at fault or if the mechatronics is not responding to the sensor override signal.

How do I find sensor information in CAN?
Pre-defined CAN configurations are available for selected transmissions from within the software. This configuration setup displays the required sensor data on screen.
What if the transmission does not have a pre-defined configuration?
BlueReach are constantly researching all new CAN transmission models. The acquired data configurations are provided free within the E-Zee Shift software updates.

E-Zee Shift allows the operator to view CAN node addresses and bit data. The operator can operate the sensor and see which bit address is influenced on the screen. This information is then saved to a transmission configuration for later use.
How do I connect to the CAN Bus?
You can connect directly to the transmission connector with the provided E-Zee Shift CAN H/L cable. On some vehicles, the Powertrain CAN BUS is terminated at the OBD socket. In this case you can connect directly to the vehicles OBD socket to access CAN BUS data.

4. OBD II

**NOTE: E-Zee Shift OBD scanner function does not support all vehicles.**
How does the OBD system work?
When connected to a vehicles OBD socket, E-Zee Shift is able to display live dash board data such as coolant temperature, ambient temperature, throttle position, engine RPM, vehicle speed, engine load.

Can I use E-Zee shift as a scanner?
Yes. E-Zee shift is able to read and display fault codes on the screen.

What if E-Zee Shift scanner finds a fault?
If a fault is detected the operator will be alerted. After resolving the fault, E-Zee shift can then reset the ECU and remove the fault codes.

How compatible is the E-Zee Shift scanner function?
The E-Zee Shift covers the 5 main OBD II protocols. These are CAN, ISO, KWP2000, PWM and VPW.

More Questions and answers

Can E-Zee Shift upload software to a mechatronic unit?
No. E-Zee Shift is not designed for this. We strongly recommend that you always get the software flashed by an accredited dealer with the latest software version.

How do I connect E-Zee shift to a dyno or valve body machine?
BlueReach will provide you with E-Zee Shift pin configurations. Using this data you can manually wire the system to an existing dyno and valve body machine. Or…
Alternatively, you can purchase a pre-built E-Zee shift fitting package (E-Zee DAQ) specifically designed for your system. This is the best option as you can be sure that all components are 100% compatible. If you prefer, a qualified BlueReach engineer can visit your facility and install the system and train you on its operation.
Will E-See Shift work with my valve body machine?
Yes. E-Zee Shift can be configured to work with any existing valve body test machine. Please note that toadequatelytest newer mechatronic controlled valve bodies and CVT units, your system may need its pump to be upgraded to achieve 60-75 bar of pressure. BlueReach can advise you on your individual circumstances of which parts you need to upgrade your system.

What support do I get with my E-Zee Shift?
Upon registering your E-Zee Shift product, you will be sent a support key. This key allows you to log on to the BlueReach website to view help and support files.
You are also able to chat online with a technician who can remotely control your E-Zee Shift system. You will also gain telephone and email support.

I already have transmission cables from systems such as TranX and Superflow. Can I use them with E-Zee shift?
Yes. BlueReach can supply an adapter so you do not need to purchase new cables.

How do I get new cables?
BlueReach can supply you with the pin configuration to build your own cables or you can purchase cables direct from your BlueReach distributor. We also provide a custom cable build service for any cable you may require.
