Downloading and installing the PRS host software for use with standard or virtual clickers.

Host vs. Client? The “host” software is run by the computer with which you, as the instructor, will present PRS materials. This will generally be the classroom console computer which is also running the projector (and SmartBoard if there is one). The “client” software is run by each student computer which is serving as a “virtual clicker”, that is, emulating a standard hand-held clicker. The single host and the several clients in a PRS session interact via WiFi – in our case within the WESLEYAN.DOM domain operating via the wesair network. In order to interact, both the host computer and the client computers must be logged in to WESLEYAN.DOM and both must have wireless access to wesair, although the host may be connected to the network via wire or wireless.

To download the host software onto the host computer:

1) Open an internet browser.

2) Enter http://www.einstruction.com as the URL. This takes you to the eInstruction home page.

3) From the menu bar across the top of the page select “Support and Downloads”

4) From the menu at the left side of the new page select “Downloads”

5) The available downloads are displayed in the center of the page. Make sure that the “Windows” tab is selected.

6) Scroll down to the tenth selection, titled “InterwriteTM PRS” and click on the “Download” button.

7) Proceed through the steps of the download wizard to download the .exe file.

8) Once the installation file finishes downloading, you can exit the browser.

9) Run the installation file either from the “Download Manager” window or from the desktop to install the software.

10) The installed software should now be in an application folder entitled “Interwrite PRS”

11) If an icon has not been created on the desktop, you will probably want to create one at this time. If an istallation icon has been created on the desktop, you will probably want to throw it in the trash.

12) The host software is ready to run. You will need to directly open the host PRS application to set up both the host computer and your class at the beginning of the semester.

13) When you open PowerPoint it should automatically detect and activate the PRS host application. You will NOT need to directly open either the PRS application or a browser.
