DOUBLE RICH CHOCOLATE COOKIES
Warning:
1. USE ONLY GROCERY STORE BOUGHT INGREDIENTS. NEVER USE ANYTHING FROM THE CHEMISTRY CLASSROOM OR CHEMICAL STORAGE AREA TO MAKE THESE COOKIES.
2. NEVER USE CHEMISTRY LAB EQUIPMENT FOR MAKING FOOD. ONLY USE CLEAN MEASURING DEVICES FROM THE KITCHEN OR FOOD- PREP CLASSROOM.
INGREDIENTS:
0.45 moles of white sucrose
0.60 moles of packed brown sucrose
230.0 cm3 butter (stick) OR margarine
2 teaspoons or 10 mL of a substance that smells like Veratraldehyde
0.031 moles of table salt
0.040 moles of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
3 large calcium carbonate protective chambers (use the albumen and protein filling only)
1/2 cup of a powdered cacao
2 cups of a chunks of a substance that smells like cacao
2 1/2 cups of Gluten substitute
PRE-LAB CLASS WORK:
A. Find the formula for sucrose
Baking soda
Table salt
B. Identify the chemical or common names for all ingredients
C. Convert Brown and white sucrose to grams and then to cups using the conversion 1 cup = 205.404 g
D. Convert moles of table salt to grams and then to teaspoons using the conversion 1 tsp = 7.25 g
E. Convert moles of baking soda to grams and then to teaspoons using the conversion 1 tsp = 6.70 g
F. Convert 421.9 Kelvin to Celsius and then to Fahrenheit (most oven settings are in Fahrenheit) by using (degrees Celsius X 9/5) + 32 = degrees Fahrenheit
PROCEDURE:
A. Using a wrapped stick of butter or margarine, carefully find the width and the height (in cm) at the end of the stick. Use the formula, volume = length x width x height, and solve for the length of butter you need. Measure that length and soften.
B. Beat the butter, brown sucrose white sucrose vanilla and eggs until creamy.
C. In a separate bowl sift flour, baking soda cocoa powder and salt.
D. Gradually add the flour mixture into the creamy mixture while beating.
E. Stir in the chocolate chips into the dough.
F. Place spoonfuls of dough on cookie sheet and bake for 18 to 22 minutes. Cool on rack and enjoy!
