Direct Variation Activity

Divide class into 5 groups. Set up 5 stations with a large post it posters and graph post it posters. Each group is to go to one of the individual stations and complete the first task. Groups then rotate to next station and complete the next task. Groups rotate until the last task (5th ) is completed. Groups are encouraged to check previous work from other groups and correct if necessary!

Task 1- Group uses a graphing calculator to graph a direct variation of their choice. Using the table function choose an ordered pair that represents that direct variation. Each group will write this point on the post it poster.

Task 2- Group determines the constant of variation (k) for the point. * stress to students that y=kx is the same thing as k=y/x

Task 3- Group writes the equation for the direct variation in y=kx format.

Task 4- Group determines 5 other points on the line.

Task 5- Group graphs the direct variation line

Follow up: Let one member of each group explain each problem
