Descriptive Video Policy
LOAN PROCEDURES
Descriptive Videos (DV) are classic and popular movies, documentaries, and television programs enhanced with narration that describes actions, settings, gestures, scenery, and other key visual elements.
These guidelines are to be followed in order to borrow Descriptive Videos:
1. Borrowers of descriptive videos must be active, registered users of the Georgia Library for Accessible Services (GLASS). You must meet the following rules of eligibility:
A. You may not have more than one cassette player checked out from GLASS, unless previously arranged by a librarian.
B. You may not have overdue cassette or Braille books on your record.
2. All descriptive video subscribers’ records are checked periodically for compliance with these rules. If a problem is found with your records, you will be notified by phone or mail and advised of what needs to be done in order to remain eligible for descriptive video service.
3. Registered patrons may borrow up to 2 (two) videos at a time. Please do not loan descriptive videos to friends and family. You will be sent videos from your request list, but none will be sent until the previously loaned video(s) have been returned.
4. The loan period for descriptive videos is 14 days. Please return the descriptive video as soon as you have watched it so you may receive another, and so others will be able to watch more descriptive videos.
5. The videos are sent to you via “free matter for the blind” and may be returned to the library in the same manner by turning over the card on the mailing case (just as you do with books you receive from GLASS).
6. Please rewind the video tape before returning it to GLASS. If there is a problem with the tape, call us or attach a note to the defective tape. If any of the videos are lost, returned damaged, or consistently returned late, the patron may be denied the privilege of borrowing descriptive videos in the future. The borrower is responsible for ensuring their VCR is in good working condition.
7. You select the movies you want to watch. Some may contain strong language, violence, or sex. When available, a national motion picture rating system is applied and noted in the catalog.
8. When you receive the descriptive video catalog, please order all the videos you would like to have. The videos you receive will come from this request list, as they become available.
9. You must provide your own VHS video cassette player (VCR). Descriptive videos will play on any VHS VCR; no special adaptation is needed to hear the descriptions.
If you have any questions about descriptive videos, please call the Library at 404-756-4619 or 1-800-248-6701. The Library staff will be happy to assist you.
