Deployed Military Property Tax Exemption

In November 2010, Florida voters approved a new property tax exemption that will benefit certain deployed military service members. A service member who currently receives a homestead exemption on their residence may receive additional savings on their property taxes. The new exemption is available to service members who were deployed during the preceding calendar year on active duty outside the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii in support of:

· Operation Enduring Freedom

· Operation Iraqi Freedom

· Operation New Dawn

The new exemption will be equal to a percentage of the taxable value of your homestead property. The applicable percentage will be calculated as the number of days during the preceding calendar year you were deployed.

To apply for the Deployed Military Exemption, please complete and return your Deployed Military Exemption Application, along with a copy of your deployment orders & travel voucher, (required documents), to our office via:

Applications with proper documentation should be submitted to our office by

August 31, 2011, but all applications will be considered due to the short legislative timeline imposed for submitting the completed application.
