Transfer or double degree

Binghamton University Scholars are granted the privilege of choosing any major in any school or college at Binghamton. To take advantage of this guarantee, Scholars must apply no later than March 15 of the freshman year. Note that this Scholars privilege may be used only one time, and students are advised to make this decision only after first obtaining careful advice from the advising office of the desired program. If a major is not chosen by March 15 of the first year, then Binghamton University Scholars go into a program application pool with all other students at Binghamton with no guarantee of admission to the desired major.

Options:

  1. Transferring: Transferring into any major in any Binghamton University School/College
  2. Double Degree: Pursuing two degrees from two different schools/colleges at Binghamton University (e.g. DSON and Harpur/biology)
  3. Double Major – Pursuing two majors from the same school/college at Binghamton University

Restrictions: This guarantee is contingent on:

  1. Completion of SCHL127
  2. GPA of at least 3.25 at the conclusion of the first semester
  3. Application submitted by March 15 of the freshman year

Careers in Nursing:

Scholars considering transferring to, or a double degree with, DSON may want to take NURS110 to explore the option of a career in nursing. This course is offered in both the Fall and Spring semesters.

NURS 110 -Exploring Professional Nursing; Credit hours: 2

Description: Exploring Professional Nursing is a general elective course that serves as an introduction to the nursing profession through course content. Students will be provided with opportunities to explore the nursing profession through films, discussions and field trips. Students explore the nature and scope of nursing and the scholarly and intellectual skills necessary for success in the profession of nursing. In addition, this course introduces the student to campus resources, and provides instruction on how to develop skills in oral presentations, critical thinking, and time management. Standard nursing letter grade. Open to freshmen. Format may vary by sections: Lecture, discussion, demonstrations and practice, guest presenters, student-led group presentations

Procedure to Complete the Process:

  1. Speak with Sara Wozniak, DSON Student Services Director, nd relevant faculty from the program you are applying to.
  2. The deadline to apply is March 15 of the freshman year.
  3. Scholars may request a choice of major during their first semester, but typically will not be considered for entry into the desired program until grades from the fall semester are posted. Please check with an advisor from the program you are applying to for preferred application timing.
  4. Instructions and an application form are available at the following link. The form must be submitted by March 15 to obtain the guarantee.
