DUTIES : The incumbent’s responsibility will be to manage the Sub-Directorate: Agricultural Production and Quality Assurance. Develop norms and standards, guidelines, policies and legislation for managing food safety and quality for agricultural products in terms of the Agricultural Product Standards Act, 1990. Manage the provision of technical advice on agricultural production and quality assurance matters. Promote best practices and develop programmes on the management of agricultural production and quality assurance. Ensure correct interpretation and implementation of policies and legislation. Render technical advisory services and provide technical and policy inputs for the Directorate. Directorate: Forestry Regulations and Oversight

DUTIES : The incumbent’s responsibility will be to assist with the administration of the National Veld and Forest Fire Act, 1998 (NVFFA). In addition, the incumbent will be expected to take a major role in re-aligning the functions and responsibilities of the Directorate within the new DAFF mandate. The incumbent will, inter alia, be responsible for administering the NVFFA and ensure compliance thereof, including but not limited to, the development and revision of policies and strategies pertaining to the administration of the NVFFA. Develop and implement systems and regulations in terms of the NVFFA and other measures to promote integrated veldfire management throughout the country. Provide guidance, manage and oversee the process for the development of regulations and any required amendments of the NVFFA. Ensure effective development of policies and strategies for the Sub-Directorate: NVFFA Oversight’s functions. REQUIREMENTS : Applicants must be in possession of a BVSc/BVMCh degree or equivalent qualification recognised by the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC). Candidates must be registered with the SAVC. Progressive experience in veterinary disease control. DUTIES : The incumbent will be expected to develop and formulate policies, norms, standards and legislation for the prevention and control of animal diseases as well as the implementation and (law) enforcement of the Animal Diseases Act, 1984, the Animal Health Act, 2002 and accompanying regulations; including liaison with relevant role-players and stakeholders. Contribute to an efficient and comprehensive risk analysis service with regard to animal diseases (risk assessments, risk management and risk communication) including the development and facilitation of specific animal disease surveillance programmes and contingency plans. Provide general assistance as Deputy Director with regard to management of office, administration, personnel, budget, etc., including the compilation of reports from the Sub-Directorate: Epidemiology and mentoring of junior officials with regard to general and specialised functions. Co-ordinate, administer, facilitate, analyse and amend all Animal Health Schemes, including bovine tuberculosis, bovine brucellosis and any other future proposals. Liaise with the Sub-Directorate: Epidemiology regarding programmes and databases for animal disease control and surveillance.
