What is Day Service?
Day Service provides day care for older people aged 65 and over.
It offers a homely therapeutic environment.
We aim to help and support our service users to remain in their own homes and to be part of their wider community.
Whilst at Thistle Day Services we aim to promote:

· Motivation
Our Objectives are:
· To assist people to remain in their own home
· To promote social stimulation and prevent isolation
· To provide a source for social care and health
· To promote the maintenance of daily living skills
· To contribute to rehabilitation
· To provide specialist care for people with cognitive impairment
· To provide support and information to carers
What is Thistle Day Services like?
Thistle Day Service has been purposely adapted to suit the needs of older people. It is situated entirely on the ground floor and has access for less able people. It is light and airy, has a main sitting area, a spacious dining room, activity area, kitchen and quiet room for relaxation. It is suitable for wheelchair users.
Thistle day Services caters for up to 22 Service Users each day.

Activities
We offer a wide range of person centred therapeutic activities, which you can participate in. These include:
· Quizzes and games
· Life stories and reminiscence
· Chair exercises to music
· Arts and crafts
· Cooking
Meals
We offer a nutritious menu with choices available for each meal. Individual dietary requirements are catered for. Light snacks and refreshments are also available throughout the day.
How Can I access Thistle Day Service?
Referrals for Day Services can be made by contacting your Social Services Office. GP’s and other health care professionals can also make referrals. Following your initial referral you will receive an assessment to identify your individual needs. If this states that you require Day Services, a member of staff from Thistle will contact you when a place becomes available.
The staff will arrange to visit you at home and can also organise a visit to the Day Service. Should you decide to attend you will be offered suitable days.
How do I get there?
Transport may be provided if required, your Single Shared Assessment will identify whether you require transport to and from the Day Centre. However, your own preferred method of transport may be more suitable for your individual needs.

Comments, Suggestions and Complaints
North Ayrshire Council operates a scheme for comments, suggestions and complaints called Listening and Learning. A copy of this leaflet is available in the day service. Alternatively you can:
