Data Entry Exercise

Description

To enter some network data using a variety of formats.

Instructions

The network you will enter is shown in the figure.

A. Enter the data in the following ways (note: you can simplify the node labels by removing the numeric suffixes):

1. Create an Excel file, enter the adjacency matrix of the graph, and then cut-and-paste into UCINET. Call the resulting dataset M1.

2. Create a DL text file using Fullmatrix formatting and import into Ucinet. Call the result M2.

3. Create a DL text file using Nodelist1 formatting and import into Ucinet. Call the result M3.

4. Create a DL text file using Edgelist1 formatting and import into Ucinet. Call the result M4.

B. In Ucinet, use the JOIN procedure to join together all of the files into single dataset to be called ALLM. Make sure to specify MATRICES as the dimension to join, not ROWS or COLUMNS.

C. Go to Tools>Similarities and correlate all matrices with all others. The input dataset is ALLM. Specify MATRICES as the dimension to correlate. If any correlation is less than 1.0, then you have made a mistake in the data entry and should start over.
