Habitat for Humanity 5K Run/Walk and One Mile Fun Run on May 3rd

Scranton, PA – Habitat for Humanity of Lackawanna County will partner with Scranton Running Company and Lackawanna Heritage Valley to host a 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run on Sunday, May 3rd, 2015.

The 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9:00 am at the Olive Street Trailhead of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail with a free One Mile Fun Run to follow at 10:15 am. Interested runners and walkers are encouraged to register in advance for a discount on the registration fee; however registration will also be open the morning of the event. All participants who register before April 12th will also receive a complimentary event t-shirt.

Proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Lackawanna County, which was founded in 1990 and has provided 29 homes to local families. Habitat houses are sold to families at no profit and are financed with affordable loans. According to Habitat for Humanity, “Every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live.”

“This event is a great opportunity to have fun while doing something that benefits your local community,” explains Matt Swartz, a member of Habitat for Humanity of Lackawanna County’s Board of Directors and Community Office Manager of Wayne Bank’s Central Scranton Office. “We’re going to have awards for top finishers and a free One Mile Fun Run so that anyone who wants to can participate.”
