The Head of Communications and Marketing is a new post that will support our Chief Executive, and the rest of our small team, in making sure that small charities are supported, empowered and inspired. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work within a small, yetinfluentialnational membership and infrastructure charity. With ambitious plans for growth in 2018 we are looking for a candidate who could help us:

  1. GROW OUR PROFILE & CUT THROUGH THE NOISE

Develop and implement exciting public-facing digital campaigns that help us to build our profile as a charity, grow our network of small charity members and raise funds. Develop and nurture our media relationships to get our messages out to wider audiences. Identify and ensure our active presence at relevant industry awards and events.
Operational oversight: campaign development & implementation, earned media placement, award submissions.

  1. ENSURE A CONSISTENT NARRATIVEWITH SIMPLEKEY MESSAGES

Support the launch of our new strategy in the spring by helping to create a compelling and consistent voice and visual identity that motivatessmall charities to join, members to take action, and other key audiences to support our mission. Use communications expertise to support our Services Team to create rich content including case studies, films, blogs and other outputs that demonstrate programme impact and build on our central narrative.
Operational responsibilities: Brand & content gatekeeper

  1. CURATE A VIBRANT DIGITAL PRESENCE

Plan and implement an exciting cross-platform editorial calendar, using insights from analytics to improve the reach and impact of our communications. Develop exciting organic content and curate collaborative external content to engage our members and supporters through our digital channels including web, social media and e-newsletters.
Operational responsibilities: Web and CRM management, e-news development, performance tracking, content creation.

  1. BUILD A TEAM FOR THE FUTURE

Work closely with the Chief Executive to ensure that we have the right people, with the right skills to deliver against an ambitious new three-year strategy (launching in April 2018).
Operational responsibilities: Recruiting and inducting staff for your team as necessary and supporting team members with applying for funding for new roles.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
We are looking for an individual with a strong track record in:

  • PR/Media:Experience in working with journalists and media outlets to place earned content
  • Creating compelling content:strong copy-writing and story-telling ability to craft engaging content for a range of audiences and channels
  • Web & Social media: managing a CMS/website and planning & implementing social media activity
  • Digital campaigns: designing and delivering integrated campaigns that drive engagement and action (especially targeting audiences in the age range 16-30)
  • Performance planning & tracking: using monitoring tools and insights to optimise our marketing activities

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • A strategic thinker able to see the bigger picture and context, and shape tactical opportunities and plans to deliver
  • Creativity and adept at identifying and maximising both longer-term and reactive communication opportunities
  • Outstanding written, verbal and proof reading skills a strong ability to articulate messages clearly and concisely to engage people at all levels
  • Excellent relationship building and influencing skills, interested in people and able to engage diverse audiences
  • Good organisation, time management and ability to focus on a specific task (as well as multi-tasking)
  • Excellent project management skills
  • High level of competency in and experience of using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to grasp, condense and communicate large amounts of information accurately and quickly
  • Experience of working within the charity sector is desirable but not essential.
