Computer Basics

Haven’t taken the plunge into the cyber pool yet? This course is designed for those with little or no experience with computers. You’ll learn what computers can do, get an overview of Windows and managing and saving files and receive a brief introduction to the Internet and email.

ACT Exam Preparation

Do you need to raise your ACT or SAT scores for college admittance and more scholarship opportunities? Better your scores in just a short time by enrolling in Stark State College’s ACT preparation program and get REAL results. Our test prep courses help you develop test-taking skills and strategies to beat the test. After taking an official retired test, our instructors will target instruction based on students’ needs. Materials include two official retired tests and Cambridge Victory textbook (1,000+ pages of skills, strategies, and practice tests.) Bring a calculator to the
first class.

Conversational Chinese I

Do you need to know basic Chinese for business or travel? You’ll be introduced to basic grammar and vocabulary generally recognized as useful in everyday communication. This course adopts a multi-faceted approach to help you gain training in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in standard Mandarin Chinese so you communicate in everyday situations. Aspects of Chinese culture also are introduced.

Everybody’s talking about “going green” these days, but what does that really mean? Is it a difficult and expensive process? Can you do it on your own? Does it mean you have to change your entire lifestyle? These questions and more will be answered as you learn about easy, practical and affordable steps you can take to turn your living space into a green oasis – reducing your carbon footprint, boosting healthy elements inside and outside your home and closing the loop on recycled goods. Fun and cost-effective green tips will include:

• how to make your home more energy-efficient, including solar and geothermal options

• eco-friendly home products to use for your next remodeling project such as windows, lighting and plumbing

• eco-living practices to make your family safer and healthier while helping out the planet

Walk Live

From the #1 name in fitness walking - Leslie Sansone's WALK at HOME .... now comes WALK "LIVE" classes for group exercise! Walk Live is a fitness program that virtually anyone can do. Four basic steps, in an easy-to-learn format, allow people of all ages and fitness levels to feel successful the first time they try these classes! New walkers will get the heart rating moving and experienced exercisers will be thrilled with the 4 or 5 mile classes that really “boost” the walk to a higher level. The pace of the music is the speed you need to walk miles and never leave the room. Our "Steps to Miles" system allows you to walk 1, 2, 3, 4, (or more) miles as we put all muscles in motion and in many directions for maximum muscle activation. Fabulous Felted Fibers

Felting is a process of taking layers of fleece fibers laid across each other using friction and a surfactant solution that amalgamates the fibers into fabric. We will be using alpaca fibers which are lighter, warmer and much softer than wool. In this class participants will learn two techniques: wet felting yielding the base scarf and needle felting for embellishment. You will have a beautiful homemade alpaca scarf valued at near $120.

Custom Fit for the Home Sew-er

Learn to adjust the fit on a Palmer Pletsch jacket pattern to each student's unique body type in a 5 week class taught by Palmer Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructors. This class is for the experienced garment sew-er who wants to learn the art of tissue fitting and construction tweaking. (What do those wrinkles mean and how do I get rid of them?) After completing this class you will be able to perfect the fit on any jacket pattern. The focus of this class is garment fit. For that reason the jacket may not be completed by the end of the class. However, all fit concerns will be addressed. Bring a notebook to week 1. A supply list will be provided at the first session. Students will need to bring their sewing machines for the 4th and 5th sessions.
