Comma and Semicolon Use

Directions: Punctuate the following sentences as written using commas and semicolons as needed. If the sentence is correct, circle the number to the left of each sentence.

1. Finally when we arrived at the convention the committee made us feel welcome and all our efforts seemed worthwhile.

2. Honestly I am about to scream these commas are too much!

3. In the middle of the night time seems to stand still and one can hear the sounds of night creatures everywhere.

4. Elizabeth my daughter's best friend plays soccer on a different team but they handle their competition well.

5. The contract must be signed by midnight in fact the deal will fall through if you don't handle this matter carefully.

6. As director you will be responsible for hiring training and disciplining all employees if you can remain fair and consistent you will be successful.

7. Jim however will not be allowed to join the team because his grades are not high enough but he can try again next year.

8. When you see these situations occur you will know how to act and when to ask for help.

9. Construct a sentence using an introductory prepositional phrase, a coordinating conjunction requiring a comma, and a subordinate conjunction.

10. Combine the following sentences into one sentence and punctuate correctly:

· Joanne is an experienced tutor.

· Joanne gives great help to students.

· Joanne will make an excellent teacher one day.

11. Construct a sentence using the coordinating conjunction yet and the conjunctive adverb even though.
