Coming soon – Alpha

Alpha started in 1977 and over the years has developed into the course which we have today. It is supported by all the main Christian denominations and millions of people have completed the course in churches, homes, schools, universities and prisons. Alpha is an opportunity to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed, non- threatening setting over 13 thought-provoking sessions usually conducted once a week in the afternoon or evening accompanied by a meal and there is no cost involved.

People attend Alpha for a wide variety of reasons. Some want to investigate whether God exists and if there is any point to life; others are concerned about what happens after death. Still others may have attended church on and off all their lives but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. People come from many different backgrounds, holding many different viewpoints – but all are most welcome.

IN BRIEF…….

ANYONE INTERESTED in finding out more about the Christian faith is welcome

on the course.

LEARNING AND LAUGHTER. It is possible to learn about the Christian faith in a

low-key and friendly way having fun at the same time.

PASTA AND PUDDING. Eating a meal together gives people an opportunity to get

to know each other.

HELPING ONE ANOTHER. After the main talk the group has a chance to discuss

any issues raised.

ASK ANYTHING. Alpha is a place where no question is regarded as too simple or

too hostile.

The course will be run by members of St Margaret’s Church, the venue date and time to be decided shortly once the number of participants becomes clear. For further details or to express interest contact Ron & Sue on 01580 212579.

What those who have done the ALPHA course say……

“I was searching for something ‘out there’. I really needed to ask questions and not feel I was getting a hard-sell pitched at me. Now I perceive things differently and just feel so at peace. I have also met a wonderful bunch of new friends on the course.”

MG, Analyst

“ We were just given the opportunity to listen to the talk and then discuss anything we wanted. I chose to ask some challenging and confrontational questions, but they were welcomed and I was made to feel valued and appreciated. I enjoyed the evening so much that I couldn’t wait to go back the following week.”

GR, Police Inspector

“ I went along to Alpha and I was so shocked. I thought Christians were really sad, boring people but I couldn’t believe it – everyone was so happy. They all welcomed me and were interested in me.” MF, Single Mother

“After a couple of weeks, I relaxed and started enjoying the talks and relating to them greatly. I was very pleased with the group. Now I keep an Alpha pamphlet in the cab and sometimes I say to passengers ‘go along and try it. It doesn’t cost you anything. It is like 10 evenings at the theatre.” BK, Taxi Driver
