Design Brief

Client Company: Hawk Industries LLC

Problem Statement: Hawk Industries is considering a move into government funded robotic projects. Before they make the leap they want to begin to compile some research on what kind of costs they may be facing on such projects for specialized materials that may be used in the building process.

Design Statement: Create a spreadsheet comparing the pros and cons of materials that can be used in the making of robotic structures (choose 2 ferrous metals, 4 non-ferrous metals, 1 thermoplastic polymer, 1 thermoset polymer, 1 elastomer polymer, 1 ceramic, and 2 composites). From your notes on material properties (http://www.cteonline.org/portal/default/Curriculum/Viewer/Curriculum?action=2&cmobjid=783219&view=viewer&refcmobjid=783227) and your own online research, select at least 5 viable things to compare amongst them. Take care to make the spreadsheet neat and easy for the leadership to understand.

Constraints:

1. Use either Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice spreadsheet program.

2. Where formulas can be used they should, calculations should not be done manually and typed in.

3. Use appropriate symbols and decimal places.

4. The resulting spreadsheet should contain a minimum of 1 graph to demonstrate results that were found.

5. Of the 5 chosen criteria, cost must be included.

Deliverables:

A spreadsheet that clearly shows to leadership the advantages and disadvantages of a number of potential robotic materials with the advantages and disadvantages of each.
