URBAN ADVANTAGE SPECIAL SHOWS IN SPACE O SUNDAY
This Sunday is Urban Advantage Family Day and they have requested a special schedule in SO for the day:
AOS at 10:15 and 3, Superchill at 11:30 and 1:30 and Cruisin' the Cosmos at 12:30.
They will also have a bilingual staff or volunteer or student nearby to help translate/answer questions for our bilingual audiences on that day. For the AOS, they will hang out near the astronaut assistant.
ECLIPSE VIEWING NEXT WEEK 10.23.14
Next Thursday, 10/23, for the partial solar eclipse, we'll have the West doors open that afternoon so guests can view things as well as telescopes up on the Sky Terrace and a bunch of special solar glasses for guests to use to view the action. The eclipse runs from about 3:30, peaks at about 4:40 and ends at 5:45, though the Museum will be closing at its normal time that day. Thanks to all for helping out with this event!
For more info about this eclipse,
ROCK N ROLL MARATHON SUNDAY
If you're working this Sunday, please note that the Rock n Roll marathon is taking place and may impact your to commute to work. The full marathon course runs through the west side of City Park, and while we don't expect it to impact parking since the race won't be starting and ending here, trying to get across town from the west side will be a challenge. Please take a look at the website and plan accordingly, leaving yourself enough time for detours and traffic.

FINDING OUT ABOUT WEST ATRIUM EVENTS
If you're ever wondering what event(s) is happening in the West Atrium when those doors are closed, feel free to contact Subpost and ask them as they should have a list of events for the day.
PLANETARIUM ISSUES?
If you have an issue where guests seem to be waiting an overly long time for a planetarium show, know that the planetarium staff are purposely starting shows two minutes late to allow for latecomers. If you need to get a hold of the planetarium usher, feel free to call them at 6030. I've also posted this number in the 2003 storage room.

Below are the dates for the 2014 free days.
The Museum is offering 12 Community Free Days in 2014, made possible by the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District. For more information, click here.

Where have we come from and where are we going? Using immersive global satellite images, geologist Bob Raynolds and space scientist Ka Chun Yu take you to the Rift Valley in East Africa. Our ancestors grew up here in lush lands, then left Africa and wandered widely, ending up concentrated by rivers, with major civilizations developing along the Nile, the Tigris, and the Indus rivers. Discuss how today we are once again concentrating, now along the "energy rivers," where we are urbanizing and developing into digital natives.

SPECIAL EVENTS THIS WEEKEND
On Saturday and Sunday, October 18 and 19, we will be hosting the first of our three Corporate Member Days. There will be a "Corporate Member Lounge" in the VIP Room, and we will provide refreshments and family-friendly activities for corporate members. They will be able to take select snacks to IMAX or Planetarium, or enjoy them in VIP. There will be signs directing them to VIP and buttons for staff and volunteers to wear, identifying them as able to help especially with wayfinding to VIP. The next two corporate member day weekends will be November 15/16 and December 20/21.
This coming Sunday, October 19, the Museum will be hosting Urban Advantage Family Science Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event invites the 7th grade students participating in the Urban Advantage program and their families to explore the Museum and also participate in special activities that encourage them to think and act like scientists. We are hoping to have about 500 attendees. They will be entering through the school entrance and we will have signage placed around the building to direct them there. If there are folks that enter through the main entrance, please direct them to the Science Atrium for check in. They will likely have the orange section of their invite in hand. Anyone with this invitation should also be directed to the Science Atrium.
Also on Saturday, we'll have the "live bats" event happening in Ricketson during the day.
The Museum embraces opportunities todiversify our audiences by becoming increasingly inclusive, aware, and accountable to our community at large. As part of a Museum-wide effort,we will be hosting a LGBT Family Day on Sunday, November 2nd. We have partnered with The Center, a local organization that supports the Denver LGBT community, to plan a day of fun, family-friendly activities to extend a special welcome to this community. As with all community events, your welcoming spirit will be an important part of this day.
MUSEUM HOSTING LGBT LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
The Museum LGBT project team has organized learning opportunities to help us meet the needs of this community. In particular, attendees of a training session will;
· Gain insight into what every day experiences are like for LGBT families in a world that assumes everyone is heterosexual.
· Get a better understanding of how LGBT families define themselves.
· Learn more about how to create the best experience possible for LGBT Museum visitors.
· Practice using new vocabulary in a safe and supportive environment.
· Practice responding to situations that may arise in the Museum during LGBT Family Day.
To participate in a training experience, please join us either Sunday, October 26th 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. or Wednesday, October 29th, 3 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. Both will be held at the Museum in Studios 102/103 on level 1 of the Morgridge Family Exploration Center.

COOL NEW ADDITIONS OUTSIDE THE MUSEUM
There is now a beautiful totem pole on the South side of the Museum and the bear statue has been moved to the Southwest corner and all the fencing around the new landscaping on the South side has been dismantled. Along these lines, Kent Ullberg, the sculptor behind the lovely new mastodon sculpture on the Northwest side of the Museum will be featured in this program on PBS:http://s590918421.t.en25.com/e/es?s=590918421&e=36811&elq=811518fd0434498ea6c3c23970464659
CONSTRUCTION IN WEST ATRIUM NEXT WEEK
Beginning on Monday 13 October, level one of the Leprino Family Atrium (West Atrium) will be cordoned off for a construction and carpeting project. Access through the atrium will be provided during construction to Ricketson Auditorium, level one restrooms and level one elevators. Levels two and three of the atrium will be open as usual. The construction and carpet replacement are scheduled to be completed by Friday 24 October.
The construction project will remove the level one portions of rings that reflect the summer and winter solstice sunset positions. We will also reconfigure the stainless steel railing to fit underneath the stair to level two. The carpet will be replaced with new material. This construction will remove a potential point of injury where the rings have been bent into sharp angles and also provide additional circulation space for catered events in the area.
