DAY 1

Daily Schedule (Subject to change)

Note: The following is the schedule for Civil War Newspaper Project. This schedule will keep you to date on where you should be at in your project, deadlines, and due dates. It will also give you a heads up on what the schedule will be like in class so you can plan accordingly.

¨ May 7 –Hand out project assignment page, assign groups, assign topics, come up with newspaper names, etc

*Assignment: Causes of the Civil War Packet will be handed out, due May 17th.

¨ May 11th Research day – Books only. Due to the MAP testing, computers will not be able to be depended on for research so we will have to research the old fashion (and sometimes overlooked) way. Some library books will be available in the classroom. Your textbook is a valuable resource.

¨ May 17th – Research/Writing Day – I-tech lab. Recommended to start rough drafts today, however in order to start you must show your completed note cards.

¨ May 19th – Research/Writing Day Media Center Lab. We will continue to research topics but writing must begin today. I recommend you finish your rough draft today and get a copy of it to your editor to begin peer reviewing, this will save a lot of time. If your rough draft is completed, you may give your copy to the editor so he/she can begin peer reviewing and perhaps beginning other stories/pictures/advertisements/want ads. etc.

*Rough Drafts Due Next Class!!! – If you get done with your rough draft, begin writing another topic of choice

¨ May 21st – Rough Drafts Due/Peer Editing Day – Begin in the classroom. Each writer must make 2 copies of their rough draft to be edited by, another group member, and the editor. After editing, you should be able to type up your revised draft. Computers will be available in the Media Center Lab

*Test on the Causes of the Civil War will be next class

¨ May 25th – Finish Typing Revised Draft. / Media Center Lab - This time you will print out 2 copies for more peer editing. This time you will review your own, and one will go to your editor. You should discuss your story with your editor. After peer review, fix mistakes and submit it to the editor. Help your editor by writing another article, creating advertisements, or finalizing the layout.

¨ May 28th – Finalize written drafts/Media Center Lab – search for pictures, help with the layout of the newspaper, create filler articles, and advertisements.

*Choose front page headline from the finished products

*Newspapers are due next class

¨ June 2nd – Group Evaluations/Look at everyone’s newspaper. Begin Reconstruction
