Choosing a Godly friend and How to become one.
Samuel 18: 1
“After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself.”
A friend in need is a friend indeed. Since we are created in God’s own Image we should walk like him, talk like him act like him, Jesus is an example of a good friend for us to be like him. Not every one that comes to us we can call friends but those who’s the love of the father are in their hearts. A Godly friend will visit you; a Godly friend will care for you even if he or she has no money they will still be there for you in prayer. A Godly friend will give you good advice; He will not lead you astray. A Godly friend will be honest and faithful to you; he will be looking for your uplift and not your downfall.
A Godly friend will love unconditionally. Look at the story of David and Jonathan the bible says in 1 Samuel 18: 1 After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself. God wants us to love one another as we love ourselves. A Godly friend will walk right with you and with God and also walk together in love. A Godly friend will have the fear of God in their heart. A Godly friend will not see you walking into a ditch without calling you back but the choice is yours to accept but when you have one spirit and one mind which is of the Lord Jesus Christ you will be able to flow in the same direction of the Holy Spirit. When Jonathan heard the evil plan of his father to his friend David, he came to rescue his life from death. A good friend will build you up and will not tear you down. Same should be for husbands and wives the bible says in Genesis 2:24. Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall become united and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh
A Godly friend will love God and serve God together with you. He will not seek for division but maintain the spirit of unity, unite together in Christ Jesus. A Godly friend will forgive your sin and not count it against you as the Word says in Colossians 3:12-14 (New International Version) “12Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. A Godly friend will speak the truth from his or her heart to you and will not lie to you, even to the point of death will stand on the truth and how do you know yourself if it is the truth? Your conscience will bear the witness. Our conscience tells us if something is right or wrong but the choice is ours which one to follow. He who follows the right path saves his life and he who follows the wrong path seeks for death. One thing with the Holy Spirit is, he will not force you but urge you. And even if anyone sin against you as a Godly friend The bible says in Matthew 18:15-16 1.
If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. 16But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. A Godly friend will walk with you, feel your concerns and ready to share with you the solution that can bring peace and love. Money is not everything. Anything contrary to the Word of God make one to become ungodly, and we know walking with an ungodly person can affect your life, your attitude and character if care is not taken. It contagious so also Godly person. The bible mentioned to us in Jude 1:14-20 their deeds (read). Thou we know ourselves as a Child of God but when we fall into that action it changes one from Godly to ungodly. But immediately we realize our mistake we must ask for forgiveness and turn away from it and turn back to God. The Word says in 2 Timothy 2:15-19 “15 Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. 16 Avoid worthless, foolish talk that only leads to more godless behavior. 17 This kind of talk spreads like cancer, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus. 18 They have left the path of truth, claiming that the resurrection of the dead has already occurred; in this way, they have turned some people away from the faith.19 But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: The LORD knows those who are his, and All who belong to the LORD must turn away from evil. May the Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you, the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26)
Prayer for Today
Father in the name of Jesus, I thank you for your word that enlightens me, help me Lord not to walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. Help me to be a Godly friend a good friend to my friends, my neighbors, my husband, my wife, my members and everyone around me. Keep your good spirit in me to lead me and guide me unto the path of truth that I will not fail you Lord and you will not fail me. Help me Holy Spirit to follow your good conscience and not to lean on my own understandings. Keep my heart and mind on the path of Godliness for your name sake I ask in the name of Jesus and I believe that I have received in Jesus name.
