Character is established with a person’s morals. Having a positive role model usually sets the precedence of one’s reputation as a whole. My grandmother is my inspiration. As a young child I watched her uplifting attitude, and I believe it helped instill my values and positive outlook on life. I am very passionate about character building and believe it is extremely important. Throughout my life, I hope to motivate others to join me as a character builder as well.
I am a passionate character builder because I always find the good in people. I inspire them to be confident and positive about their life. I encourage them to strive to be a leader not a follower and always do the right thing. I truly care about people. In my high school, I have been elected Sr. Class President. I value the opinions of others and realize it takes teamwork to find a solution that meets the needs of everyone; however I do stand firm in what I believe in and what I feel is the right thing to do. Even if I am the only one. I am not afraid to take a stand to make a good ethical decision. I spend time helping in my own community with different events. I am a Vacation Bible School leader at my church. This is one way I give back to my community. I remember growing up in VBS, and I looked up to my teachers and helpers; this is the perfect opportunity for me to be a positive role model to young children. They are our future.
There are many reasons why character building is so essential to me. Since children are our future, I feel the ultimate need to give back to others so I can help improve their quality of life. If we teach them when they are young, like my grandmother helped to teach me, as they become adults they too will have good moral character. I feel what as a whole my generation lacks personality traits that portray good character. This is not the case for every teenager, but I do believe it is a very rare quality. I am so uplifted when I see a person hold a door for an elderly woman, hear someone my age say “no sir” or “yes maam,” or see a customer let someone ahead of them because they have fewer items. I feel so strongly about establishing good morals in others because without certain attributes, the world would be corrupt and full of selfishness.
I plan to carry out my college and life by continuing this positive attitude. I will always practice what I preach. I want to be a leader and hopefully make a difference in the lives of those around me as others have truly made a difference in my life. If I help my community and school to flourish with good moral qualities, I feel certain the world can be a better place to live. After all, the main reason people do not choose to have good character is because they think they can’t have fun. I think they need to re-evaluate their definition of having a good time!
