T4OT Official Holiday Collection and Packing Guidelines - Revised October 2013

Frequently Asked Questions:
Who can do this? WE WANT YOU...to do this. Anyone can help. Colleagues, students, sports teams, friends and neighbors. Support the troops by paying it forward. It's fun and easy and of course family friendly. Save your current magazines and start boxing up your surplus holiday candy the month of December! Please do not buy any extra candy...our mission is to support the troops & wounded warriors by joining forces as a community and sharing what we already have. Got some change burning a hole in your pocket? Save it for postage! All you need is $14.85 to mail one box! Don't waste any space...fill the boxes to the rim...they are flat rate after all!

T4OT Official Candy Collection and Packing Guidelines:
Who receives the candy/Where will I mail my package/How do I get addresses? T4OT care packages are sent directly to deployed troops. All APO/FPO addresses will be accepted. Mailings will continue on a rolling basis until all of the candy has been distributed. T4OT goody bags are personally delivered to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir throughout the year. Drop-offs and deliveries begin on Veterans Day 2013. Treats 4 Our Troops will provide APO/FPO addresses.

How do we pack the candy for T4OT? Quality control is our priority. Please sort the candy as you collect and pack it in the T4OT care packages. T4OT only sends fresh candy that is from the current collection season. We rather err on the side of caution. Please be sure that ALL individual candy is unopened. Melted, smashed, opened and old candy is not accepted. For example please DO NOT send beach taffy etc. We want our treats to be fresh and seasonal for the troops. We do not include pixy stix or candy that may be viewed as inappropriate such as gummy body parts and eyeballs etc. If there is any question please do not include in the care packages. Chocolate is OK to send and we DO include it in our care packages.

What kind of boxes do we use? Large APO/FPO flat rate boxes from the United States Postal Service. T4OT will provide these boxes locally. If you are not local the USPS have these boxes in stock. You can also order the boxes on the USPS website (at no charge) to be delivered directly to your location. Don't forget your customs forms. Form number 2976-A is also available at the post office and it's very user friendly!http://www.usps.com/prices/priority-mail-prices.htm

What else goes into the care packages? T4OT packages include candy, cards/notes. T4OT also collects recycled magazines from the current season to include in care packages and deliveries to WRNMMC and Fort Belvoir.

Does our group need to use specific tape? T4OT uses packing/box tape and or USPS priority mail tape. We request that you provide packing tape so that more of our funds may be used directly for postage. Please contact us if you are able to donate packing tape. The more we can collect, the more funds can be spent on the cost of mailing.

What should our cards and notes say? All correspondence should be upbeat and positive. Please do not include any religious or political sentiment. Support and encourage the troops and “Wounded Warriors” with messages such as “Thank you for your service.” “Be safe.” “Hope you will be home soon.” Please do not specify gender when addressing notes and cards. Please feel free to contact T4OT with any questions or concerns @

How can we schedule a collection/packing event? The official candy collection will be held on a rolling basis. T4OT will provide support and "best practices". We suggest hosting a packing event on Veterans Day to. You can do as much or as little as you like. Each and every T4OT care package is serving one more service member! We do suggest that groups join forces with their community and host a packing event. Let's serve those who serve this year!

How do we get the packed T4OT care packages to you?You don't need to! Pay it forward this year directly from your community. Host a bake sale, collect change for the troops, brown bag it one day, hold a lemonade stand. You get the idea! Gather your change and mail your boxes! It's $1.00 per pound of candy. By joining forces with T4OT your community can make a difference and support the troops. Don't forget to use the "America Supports You" flat rate APO/FPO boxes that are available for free at the USPS!

How can our group sponsor T40T care packages/2013 collection? Treats 4 Our Troops relies on community and corporate donations to pay for postage. $14.85 sends a minimum of 13 pounds of candy directly to deployed U.S. troops. Donations pay for packing materials, transportation and postage.

What does T4OT you need to operate? Packing tape and monetary donations are always needed.
