Ulster University Talented Athlete Entry Scheme

Did you know that Ulster University offers reduced grade requirements to talented athletes entering full-time undergraduate study?

The Talented Athlete Entry Scheme is designed to assist talented young sports performers in gaining access to a quality education at Ulster University whilst attaining success at the highest levels within their chosen sport.

The Scheme recognises the sacrifice in time, effort and crucially – in examination performance – which may result from taking part in sport at the highest level. Under the Talented Athlete Entry Scheme, Ulster University allows a reduction in the grades required for entry to full-time undergraduate courses.

For the academic year 2018-19, successful applicants to the Talented Athlete Entry Scheme will be offered a two grade reduction in entrance requirements or the equivalent in other accepted entrance qualifications.

If you have any questions or require any further information in relation to the Talented Athlete Entry Scheme, please contact the Scheme Administrator by email on:

Dutch Universities want to meet you in Belfast:

A group of Dutch universities is coming to the North of Ireland (Belfast https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/theyre-back-were-going-dutch-belfast-tickets-39526564017) in January, to speak with students and their families. As more and more students from the island of Ireland opt to study in mainland Europe, these universities represent a fantastic opportunity to study on a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Subject areas offered by these institutions include International Law, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Business, Game Design, Medicine, Public Health, Pharmacy, Biomedicine, International Relations/European Studies, Security Studies, Languages, Natural Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Hotel Management, Music, Fine Art, Design, Teaching and many more. Remember that these universities do not select students based on A-Level grades.

Costs are much lower than studying in the UK or in Ireland.

You can register free for this events at:

Belfast https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/theyre-back-were-going-dutch-belfast-tickets-39526564017

Note that in the context of Brexit, it will be to a student’s advantage to have an EU passport (e.g. Poland, Lithuania, Ireland etc.) to ensure rights to lower fees and student finance, rights that are secured through passport and not through residence.

Invitation for Year 13 Students – Queen’s Management School Taster Programme

Each year we hold a taster event for all year 13 students who are potentially interested in applying for one or more of the following degree programmes which we offer in the Management School:

Accounting

Actuarial Science and Risk Management

Business Management

Economics and related programmes

Finance

International Business with a Language

This half-day event is being held on Wednesday 17th January 2018 in the Whitla Hall, Queen’s University Belfast.

The purpose of this event is for students to learn more about our Management School and some of our exciting new developments. There are opportunities to speak informally with staff and students from the Management School and to find out more about the specific degree programmes which we offer, and life at Queen’s in general. This will hopefully allow students to make a more informed choice when applying through UCAS.

If you require further information, please contact Barry Sheppard (telephone number 028 9097 5512 or by email ). We look forward to meeting you on 17 January.

Queen's University - School of Pharmacy Information Sessions

The Pharmacy MPharm degree is a four-year programme, with the primary focus of generating registered Pharmacists.

The BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences is a three-year programme designed for those whose career aspirations are aligned with the pharmaceutical industry, rather than clinical practice.

The School will host 3 Information Sessions, accommodating 20 students in each session.

Sessions will be held on:

Friday 26 January 2018

Friday 2 February 2018

Friday 23 February 2018

Students will be given a talk on courses available at the School of Pharmacy and they will be given a tour of the School to highlight both state of the art facilities and our world leading research programmes.

Importantly, students will also have the opportunity to speak to current undergraduate students, providing a student perspective on what its like to study within the School of Pharmacy at Queens.

Selection for attendance at the Information Sessions will be decided via an application process.

Completed applications should be submitted to by Friday 15th December 2017.

Year 13 Work Shadowing Arrangements

All pupils in Year 13 should have received a work shadowing application form and medical form on Tuesday 24th October 2017.

The two forms must be returned to Mr G Patterson in the Library by Friday 10th November 2017 at the very latest. No placements will be arranged until both forms are returned.

Charter work placements tend to be allocated on a first come first served basis so pupils need to check their emails regularly for details of such placements.

The application form states the placements that Charter arrange. It is important that pupils give Mr Patterson as much information as possible to arrange such placements eg. dates, location, contact names and email address etc. Pupils should ensure that they can attend a Charter placement, and be able to travel to these placements, before saying they wish to take part, as Charter cannot produce paperwork at short notice for someone else to fill the placement.

Pupils should try to get an email address for the employer when they have arranged a placement, as this speeds up the process and the insurance paperwork can be emailed rather than posted.

Pupils are encouraged to complete work placements during holiday time or after they finish their AS exams (Monday 4th June) unless it is a Charter placement etc.

Pupils should collect a log book from Mr G Patterson whenever a placement has been arranged. Pupils should ensure that they complete all sections of the log book and the Employer should fill out the Assessment Form. This log book will then be passed on to the UCAS Referee at the beginning of Year 14.
