POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Assistant Early Childhood Instructor
Program: Soundbridge
General Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Early Childhood Instructor and the Teacher of the Hearing Impaired, to assist in the instruction of hearing impaired children in the classroom by maintaining equipment, providing instructional services, reinforcing teaching objectives and assisting in providing a developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists with the supervision and integration of hearing impaired students by redirecting inappropriate behaviors, modeling problem-solving skills, and helping children to master spoken language skills.
2. Prepares classes and provides instructional services.
3. Develops and maintains preschool classroom environment by creating safe, developmentally and age appropriate learning centers designed to allow students to learn cause and effect, solve problems and to create mediums of their own for cognitive, physical and emotional growth.
4. Assists with the development and planning for thematic units to provide students with targets or key experiences to assist them in meeting individual and group goals.
5. Prepares and creates classroom learning materials.
6. Assists in the collection of data on abilities of developing hearing-impaired children to be used for parent progress reports.
7. Assists students with self help skills such as toileting and toilet training.
8. Troubleshoots and checks FM systems, hearing aids and cochlear implant devices.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or related area with 3 years of experience in the field of child development or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be knowledgeable in the appropriate application of behavior management techniques for children. Requires knowledge of strategies for developing spoken language in hearing impaired students, addressing special educational needs of individual children and for helping students to integrate.

None.
Working Conditions
Requires rigorous physical effort to deal with very active young students. Requires ability to lift/carry students up to 50 pounds.
