CANSLIM MEET UP SUMMARY

January 14, 2010

We continue to conduct our CanSlim Review between 6:30 and 7:00. A brief explanation of the Can Slim acronym has been uploaded to the files section of our site.

We took a look at the VIX and its unusual potential island-reversal pattern. Some technicians believe this to be an omen of a market pull back. There is a very interesting article on the current “important juncture” of the VIX that has been uploaded to our site. (Go to MORE on MeetUp home page menu, FILES, and open StockTiming.com 1.13.10.doc)

On Jan. 7th a 5:38 minute video was aired on IBD-TV defining 2 key chart patterns: the Short Stroke Pattern and the Three Weeks Tight pattern. A summary of this video has been added to our file section of the Meet Up site. [Key IBD Chart Patterns]

In addition we investigated other chart patterns at www.ThePatternSite.com. Thomas Bulkowski has a wealth of FREE information there on Candlesticks, Chart Patterns, Elliott Wave and more!

Bulkowski has performed thorough statistical analysis of various chart patterns, evaluating their success rate, failure rate, rise-over-run rate, and more. He details what criteria to look for that confirms a pattern and defines how to determine the measured move.

Ray Costner shared his AV expertise and his DGO subscription to assist us in reviewing charts.

Hap Chastain shared some quotable information found in daily IBD news since our last meeting. An important point was made that the Can Slim strategy under performed the general indexes in 2009.

Scott Roberts (an IBC Chart School graduate; Level 3) talked with us about his use of the premium tools available through IBD (Daily Graphs Online & eTables) and the IBD newspaper. He selects top stocks in top industry and sectors to populate his watch list.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE IS A NEW SECTION IN THE DAILY IBD!

Starting this past week, WORLD STOCKS was added to the B Section of the newspaper. This half page is dedicated to the review of the top international stocks. It also provides a computer generated list of the Top 15 World Stocks based on earnings growth and relative price performance.

Some charts that we reviewed include:

STEC, AAPL, HMIN, BIDU, GMCR, FUQI, VRX, PEGA, AFAM, GIVN

We raffled 3 books: the newly released How to Make Money in Stocks, 24 Essential Lessons for Investment Success, and The Successful Investor, all by William J. O’Neil.

The date for our February meeting has been set for February 11, 2010 at the GSU Brookhaven location (room TBA.) Our meeting will begin at 7:00 PM, with a CAN SLIM review at 6:30 for those interested. We were at Wait List status on the day of our meet up this week. Please remember to RSVP via the website so that there will be seats for all.
