NJCAA REGION 16 SPORT CODES
Women’s Basketball – Division I

A.  Selection of chair: Nominations will be accepted from the floor by the Sports Committee Facilitator. Once nominations cease, coaches cast one secret ballot per school for a nominee. The coach with the simple majority of votes cast will serve as Chair of the Women’s Basketball Sports Committee.

B.  Selection of Coach of the Year: Coach of the year will be voted on prior to the start of the Region 16 Tournament.

C.  Selection of Region competition site:

Region: The Region Play-offs will be decided by everyone playing each other twice.With six teams in the tournament will be drawn up by the top two teams getting byes. Three playing six and four playing five. The Region 16 Tournament is TBA.

Game Times:

Play-in game; Tuesday prior to regional tournament-7:00pm unless a men’s game is at the same site.

Friday-5:00pm and 7:00pm

Saturday-3:00pm

D.  Award policy:

1.  All-Region plaques and Coach of the Year will be awarded after the championship game.

2.  First and Second place medals will be awarded to Champions and runner-up individuals.

3.  Ten All Region plaques will be awarded.

4.  Any players receiving a vote will be given a Second Team certificate.

5.  Award the top vote getter, the Player of the Year, for Region 16.

E.  All Region selections:

1.  Coaches may nominate any number of players from their roster.

2.  Ten players will be selected by vote of coaches.

3.  It will be each coach’s responsibility to submit names to the Regional Director or representative no later than the (Winter Region Meeting). The Regional Director or representative will list all players on a ballot and return a compiled list for each coach to vote for ten players.

4.  Players will be ranked in order of preference one through ten, one being the highest. Total votes will count and point ranking will be used only in case of a tie. Should a tie still exist, both players will be selected to the team.

5.  Coaches may not vote for their own players and ballots must be signed before being turned in to the Regional Director or representative. Coaches should have ballots turned into the Regional Director or representative on Monday February 25th by 12 noon.

F.  All-American nominations:

Criteria for the selection will be based upon:

1.  Ranking for All Region team.

2.  Individual statistics (NJCCA Web page)

3.  Team strength at the regional level.

4.  Committee members recommendation

G.  Code of Conduct: The region will adopt the code of conduct as stated in the NJCAA handbook.

H.  Regional Tournament:

1.  Seeding:

A.  All teams will be seeded for regional play.

B.  Region record

Ties Involving Two Teams:

C. Results of head to head competition during the regular season.

D. Each team's record vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular season standings (or in the case of a tie for the championship, the next highest position in the regular season standings) continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.

When arriving at another group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group, rather than performance against the individual tied teams.

E. A comparison of the tied teams Region-only road record.

F. Winning percentage against non-Region Division I opponents, even if the number of games played is unequal the highest winning percentage shall prevail. In the case of tied percentages, the following shall

apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

Ties Involving More than Two Teams:

C. Results of head to head competition during the regular season among the tied teams (mini round-robin).

D. If more than two teams are still tied, each of the tied team's record vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular season standings continuing down through the standings and eliminating inferior records until one team gains an advantage. When arriving at another group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group, rather than performance against the individual tied teams.

E. If more than two teams are still tied, a comparison of the tied teams Region-only road record.

F. If more than two teams are still tied, winning percentage against non-Region Division I opponents, even if the number of games played is unequal the highest winning percentage shall prevail. In the case of tied percentages, the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

G. If at any point the multiple-team tie is reduced to two teams, the two-team tie-breaking procedures will be applied.

2.  Officials:

Regional: Officials will be hired by the Region Assignor (Danny Harris).
Championship Game: Officials for the Championship game will be hired by the Regional Assignor (Danny Harris)

3.  Type of play

A. The tournament will be a single elimination (See appendix B)

4.  Site Selection: TBA

Tournament will be held two weekends prior to the start of the National Tournament.

5. Type of ball: The official tournament ball used will be the same as stated in the NJCAA Handbook under the Division I Women’s Basketball.

6. Region 16 Tournament: Schools wishing to practice prior to the tournament will need to contact (the site host for availability) Practice will be limited to one hour per day.

7. Filming of opponent games: Colleges may video only those games in which their college participates.

8. Financial arrangements

  1. After expenses, all profits are to be turned into the Region.
  2. Forward a financial report to the Regional Director one week prior to the next Spring Region meeting and to each participating school.

9. Pass List Requirements

The pass list is to be sent to the Host school. The following will be admitted free of charge:

Two Administrators plus their guest, all Cheerleaders and mascots that are in uniform, and cheer sponsors.

10. The court must be available a minimum of 1 hour prior to the start of all Region 16 regular season games and tournament games for teams to warm-up.

I. The host school for the Regional Play-offs will be responsible for the following:

  1. Prepare a program.
  2. Hire (when applicable) support staff.
  1. Be responsible for all expenses.
  2. No expenses are allowed for building rental, heat, light, or power unless it’s a neutral site.
  3. Make all arrangements pertaining to the preparation and maintenance of court and locker rooms.
  4. Collect the pass list from participating schools.
  5. Provide warm-up basketballs and game ball for participants.
  6. See that spectators are in accord with the rules of the NJCCA.
  7. After expenses, all profits are to be turned into the Region.
  8. Forward a financial report to the Regional Director one week prior to the next Spring Region meeting and to each participating school.
  9. Hand out plaques to the All-Region team and Coach of the Year.
  10. Make sure there is Security on duty and an Athletic Trainer available.
  11. Admission: $5, $2 for Students with a Valid ID
