MESSAGES FROM OUR ASSOCIATE SPONSORS

This autumn The Daily Telegraph enters its tenth year of sponsorship of BUSA, thereby demonstrating our continued commitment to university sport.

Regular BUSA bulletins will appear in The Daily Telegraph - the only newspaper to contain a separate sport section every day- and can also be found online at www.sport.telegraph.co.uk. We will be distributing newspapers at all major BUSA events throughout the year, as well as goodies and prizes.

The Daily Telegraph wishes you the best of luck in all your sporting activities this year!

PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the world’s largest professional services firm, is delighted to begin its sixth year of sponsorship with BUSA. As the UK’s largest graduate recruiter in the private sector, PwC is an organisation that values the extracurricular activity and achievements BUSA promotes.

PricewaterhouseCoopers also sponsors numerous university sports clubs nationally, and many university sports benefit from our support of coaching initiatives run at various Sports Unions.

Regular reports on BUSA Championship Events are available on PwC’s careers website at www.pwc.com/uk/careers where you’ll also find information about the firm’s undergraduate and graduate programmes.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

1.  All ATHLETES (and NOT Team Captains/Coaches) must register a MINIMUM of 1 hour before their event. Attempts to register after this period will be refused. The Registration desk will be open from 8.30am Saturday and Sunday.

2.  The 1-hour deadline will be judged from the clock on the registration desk. ATHLETIES MUST REGISTER A PERSONAL BEST FOR THE EVENT THEY ARE ENTERING TO ASSIST SEEDING.

3.  Alterations to the name of the competitor entered by an institution and listed in the programme for an event, may be made UP TO 1 HOUR BEFORE the event is due to take place. However, substitutions can only be made from the list of reserves submitted to BUSA by institutions prior to the Championships, or alternatively if the individual has already been entered for another event and is listed elsewhere in the programme.

4.  An athlete is only deemed to be in the process of registering upon presentation of the registration card at the registration desk. The act of completing the card is in itself insufficient.

5.  Any athlete waiting to register should make themselves known to those on registration by going to the front of the queue if the 1hour deadline is approaching. Calls for athletes will be made 10 minutes, 5 minutes and 1 minute before the close of an event.

6.  Athletes delayed in traffic etc may be permitted to register over the telephone, subject to the BUSA Athletics Technical committee approval. However, the call must be received before the 1 hour registration deadline. Only calls to 07780 814526 will be accepted, messages should NOT be left on the answer phone as these WILL NOT be accepted. YOU MUST SPEAK TO A BUSA OFFICIAL. DO NOT CALL THE SPORTS PROGRAMME MANAGER DIRECTLY. Please note athletes having registered in this manner will not be permitted to take part if they are not present for assembly or have not registered with the Field Referee 30 minutes before field events.

7.  Athletes are only required to register for the first round of their event. Re-registration is not required for finals or intermediate rounds.

8.  Athletes may register for events on subsequent days. Athletes wishing to do this must present registration cards to the registration table assigned for this purpose. Athletes are STRONGLY encouraged to avoid registering for these events at peak times i.e. 9am - 11.30am, where possible.

9.  Athletes competing in field events are reminded that they must register for ALL events in which they wish to compete in at the registration area, and NOT with the Field Referee.

ANY ERRORS IN THE PROGRAMME SHOULD BE COMMUNICATED TO THE BUSA OFFICE PRIOR TO THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

REPORTING

All competitors must report to the marshalling area AT LEAST 10 MINUTES before their event is due to start. The responsibility of being on the mark at the time specified in the programme, after being called by the stewards, lies entirely with the competitor.

In the case of field events competitors will be permitted to enter 30 minutes before the start of the event to report to the Chief Judge for that event, provided the area is available.

SEEDING

Competitors should note that the lane draw for HEATS (Round 1) is RANDOM and based upon Personal Best information declared at registration. Thereafter seeding will occur based upon performance in the previous round. Information on the qualification process for each event will be posted on the results board and at registration once the registration deadline has passed.

WITHDRAWALS

Once an athlete has qualified for a subsequent round of the competition they are not permitted to opt out of that competition and continue to compete in the championships, whether it is on day one or day two. This applies to both the track and field competitions. The track referee can prevent a competitor competing on the track if the competitor has opted out of a field event in which he/she has qualified for a subsequent round. The field referee has the same powers to exclude from a field event an athlete if he/she has opted out of a track event [UKA reg 115(3) and 120(10)].

The following starting and qualification heights / distances will be in place:

In normal circumstances a final event shall take place at the time scheduled for the final unless unanimous support for its rescheduling is agreed by those competing.

Throwing events – UK Athletics directive

Competitors must not throw implements during the competition except when it is their turn and then only from the circle or scratch line.

Availability and timing of practice facilities are exclusively at the discretion of the relevant track or field referee.

The referee or judge shall disqualify from competing in any event any athlete who wilfully disobeys the above instruction after his or her attention has been drawn to it.
