MARTIN J BRODIE, MBChB, MRCP , MD , FRCP
Martin Brodie is Professor of Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He directs the Epilepsy Unit in the Western Infirmary, which
provides a range of services for people with seizure disorders. He qualified in Medicine
at Glasgow University in 1971 and undertook his postgraduate training in London before taking up his present post in 1981. His research interests include antiepileptic drug neuropharmacology, management of epilepsy and factors affecting treatment response.
He has published more than 400 editorials, book chapters, reviews, proceedings and articles
in peer reviewed journals. Professor Brodie is treasurer of the International League against Epilepsy, having previously been its vice-president prior to which he was secretary and then chair of the Commission on European Affairs. He chairs the Management Group of European Concerted Action and Research in Epilepsy (EUCARE), and is a founding member of the European Epilepsy Academy (EUREPA). He set up and chairs the board of trustees of the charity, Scottish Epilepsy Initiative. Martin Brodie has been appointed “Ambassador for Epilepsy” on behalf of the International League against Epilepsy and the International Bureau for Epilepsy.
