Job Summary:

Under supervision of the Head Start Nutrition Coordinator, the RDN develops, implements and monitors the nutrition component of the Early Head Start Child Care Partnership Grant, ensuring that partners are in compliance with nutrition-related Head Start Nutrition Performance Standards, CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program), and state child care licensing regulations. Provides training, support, consultation, and technical assistance to staff, parents and Partners, as needed. Helps implement and monitor CACS Early Head Start nutrition services, as directed.

Job Requirements:

Education and/or certification:

§ Registered dietitian or possesses a Master’s Degree (MPH or MS) from an approved

program in public health nutrition

§ One to three years of related and progressively more responsible experience in infant/toddler nutrition, community nutrition, and/or working with low-income families.

§ Preferred knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines

§ Preferred knowledge of the CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program)

Program Services:

§ Responsible for the delivery of the Early Head Start Child Care Partnership (EHS-CCP) grant nutrition services and those of the Early Head Start program, as directed.

§ Conducts on-site monitoring of EHS Partners to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, CACFP requirements, and child care licensing rules. Provides technical assistance and corrective action plans as needed.

§ Provides training in nutrition and food safety/sanitation to EHS staff, Partners, and parents, as needed.

§ Provides input into the planning of monthly EHS breakfast and snack menus.

§ Consults with EHS families who have nutritional concerns about their child’s growth, feeding challenges, eating habits, food allergies, or other special dietary needs.

§ Provides nutrition assessment and consultation with EHS-enrolled pregnant moms, as needed.
