Guidelines for Submittal of Nominations

A complete nomination package consists of the following items, arranged in this order:

a. Signed nominator’s cover letter

b. Official Award Nomination form, signed by the nominator

c. Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prizes Nomination Form, signed by the nominator

d. Three-six supporting letters

e. Nominee’s CV (6 pages or less)

If submitted electronically, these documents must be presented in the order outlined above and as a single PDF; the necessary signatures must be included.

Age of Nominee

Because these research prizes are intended for younger members of the Society, only in an extremely rare instance would the nomination of someone beyond age 40 who had not previously been nominated receive serious consideration by the Awards Committee.

Nomination Form and Supporting Letters

a. The complete nomination should include supporting letters (at least three but no more than six) from recognized authorities and other specialists in the nominee’s field of research. Because of the high level of competition for these prestigious awards, letters from only the nominator and the chairman of the division or council awards committee generally will not be sufficient for a successful nomination.

b. Supporting letters should address one or more of items 7, 8, 9 and 10 (in particular) of the Huber nomination form. The nominator’s statements in response to these items should be as concise as possible. Lengthy and highly technical responses are not appropriate.

Nominee’s Resume

The resume should be concise (maximum of six pages) and consist of the following: birth date; education; professional positions; engineering and scientific society memberships and service (ASCE and others, including technical journal responsibilities); honors and awards (if applicable); research grants and contracts (optional); and research publications (journal articles, monographs, original papers in conference proceedings, and major research reports not encompassed by other publications). Please do not include information on courses taught, university committee service, and graduate students supervised.
