A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Carl Anthony Rakes.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Deputy Carl Anthony Rakes, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Deputy Anthony Rakes, of Bradfordsville, Kentucky, was born on August 30, 1981, in Marion County, and he traversed these earthly bounds on November 14, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Anthony Rakes was the beloved son of Carl and Alicia Rakes, who preceded him in death. He was the doting brother of Anita Elder and Regina Ewing, and he leaves behind many other family members who loved him dearly; and

WHEREAS, family and friends of Deputy Anthony Rakes attested to his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer. He first joined the Lebanon Police Department, where he worked for two years, and then the Marion County Sheriff's Department, where he served for six years; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Anthony Rakes was diligently serving the residents of Marion County during the early morning hours of November 14, 2012, when he was killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop; and

WHEREAS, the residents of Marion County and peace officers from around the Commonwealth of Kentucky paid tribute to the life and dedicated service of Deputy Carl Anthony Rakes during the service held in his memory and honor at the Marion County High School Gymnasium, recognizing the fulfillment of his lifelong dream and the ultimate sacrifice he paid in protecting the residents of Marion County; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Deputy Carl Anthony Rakes has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Carl Anthony Rakes and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

âSection 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Deputy Carl Anthony Rakes.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to Anita Elder, 105 Frogtown Road, Lebanon, Kentucky 40033, and Regina Ewing, 218 West Chandler Street, Lebanon, Kentucky 40033.
