The island of Korcula is famous as the home town of Marco Polo – the famous explorer who holds a prominent position in world history. In Korcula we find more legends, tales and monuments than anywhere else in Croatia. Being famous for the stonemasons, shipbuilders and seafarers, the people of Korcula left their marks all over the world, but saved their best works for their own city. Experience the narrow streets, beautiful churches and magnificent palaces in one of the best preserved Medieval towns in the Mediterranean. There will be time free to explore on your own and sample local dishes in one of the many restaurants (own expense). On our return to Dubrovnik, a stop will be made in one of the well-known wine cellars of the Peljesac peninsula, to sample some of the excellent local wine.

The best views of Dubrovnik and surrounding areas are seen from the sea. The historical Galleon sets the scene for your cruise experience. During the cruise you will see three of the most beautiful islands of the Dubrovnik archipelago: Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan – commonly known as the Elafiti Islands. The name of the island group originates from the Greek seafarers hunting deer on these islands. The fertile islands have gardens full of oranges and lemons, and there are lovely seashore landscapes; charming and picturesque villages with traditional architecture; old seafarers’ homes and little votive churches. We will stop for lunch (included in tour cost) consisting of grilled fish and local wine, whilst being entertained by local musicians.

Taste of Dalmatia (half day)

Departs Wednesdays 09/04/14 – 08/10/14. Hotel pick-up 11.00 – 12.20

The tour starts with a pleasant bus ride along the Adriatic coastline, and the first stop will be made in the small village of Orasac. Here you will see olive oil production done the old-fashioned way, where the olive press is powered by horse. Taste some of the local delicacies such as cheese, smoked ham and wine. We continue towards Ston which is Croatia’s “Oyster capital” where oysters are still produced. The city walls are magnificent and well worth a photo-stop. These walls are 5 km long and the construction started in 1317 and was finished by the 16th century. You will also see remnants of the ancient salt pans – salt is still produced here. Enjoy a walk along the sea in Mali Ston, with views onto the oyster and mussel farms. Taste local seafood in one of the local restaurants (included in tour cost).

Into the Countryside (half day)

Departs Saturdays 05/04/14 – 11/10/14. Hotel pick-up 12.10 – 14.00

Typical to rural Croatia is the traditional way of living; pure olive oil; green honey; sweet-smelling herbs and embroidery – and this is a true ethnographic jewel. We visit the old mills on Ljuta River, once used to grind corn and produce flour and well as for processing of cloths. A short demonstration is followed by a drink and snack. We continue to Cavtat – an ancient Roman Town, and one of the most beautiful small towns along the Adriatic coast. Your guide will take you on a walking tour of Cavtat, and you will also have time to explore on your own. On our way back to Dubrovnik we make a stop at a viewpoint offering spectacular views of the area and surrounding islands.
