8th Grade Theme Park Project

Standard Unbound Report

Short reports are often prepared without covers and binders. If they are more than one page, a paper clip or staple in the upper-left corner usually holds them together. These reports are called unbound reports and are frequently formatted using a standard format.

The standard format for your reports will use the following:

  • Margins. Use the default left, right, and bottom margins on all pages; use 2” top margins on page 1 and 1” top margin on all other pages.
  • Page Numbering. Do not number the first page; insert a centered page number in a footer or as a right-aligned page number in a header for the second and subsequent pages.
  • Line spacing. Use the defaults (1.15 Line Spacing and 10 points of blank space after each paragraph).
  • Styles. Use Title style for the report title and Heading 1 style for the side headings. Use the default (Word 2007 style set).
  • Textual citations. Key textual citations in parentheses in the body of the report at the point where the credit for paraphrased or quoted material is given. Quotations that are fewer than four keyed lines are enclosed in quotation marks. Long quotations that occupy four or more keyed lines are indented .5” from the left margin.
  • Reference list. Use the page 1 margins for the reference list. Key and format References in Title style at the 2” vertical position. Key each reference using a .5” hanging indent style. Use the same line spacing that is used for the report body. Number the reference list page in the same manner that page 2 and subsequent pages are numbered.
