8th grade Agenda for the Weeks of 10/24 – 10/28 and 10/31 – 11/4 (and beyond!)

Assignments due this and next week (and beyond):

Group answers to “Game” questions are due Mon., 10/24 for full credit.

Questions 1-6 of worksheet #3 in the gerund/participle packet are due Tues., 10/25.

Questions 7-11 of worksheet #3 in the gerund/participle packet are due Wed., 10/26.

Questions 1-6 of the gerund/participle practice test are due Thurs., 10/27.

Questions 7-11 of the gerund/participle practice test are due Fri., 10/28.

The irony writing assignment is due Monday, 10/31. Students will present these assignments to the class on Monday, 10/31 and Tuesday, 11/1.

Students will take a test over the gerund/participle packet on Wed., 11/2.

Complete the Lesson 2 vocab exercises by Thursday, 11/3.

Students will read pages 1-14 of Fahrenheit 451by Friday, 11/4.

The group questions to pages 1-14 of Fahrenheit 451 are due Tuesday, 11/8.

The Lessons 1-2 vocab review questions, all problems, are due Wed., 11/9.

Students will read pages 14-28 of Fahrenheit 451 by Wed., 11/9.

Students will take the vocab quiz over Lessons 1-2 on Thurs., 11/10.

We will begin studying infinitives and infinitive phrases the week of 11/14 – 11/18.

Monday, 10/24

  1. We’ll be turning in our Level B vocabulary workbooks today and checking out the Level C vocabulary workbooks. You can keep your Level B book for an extra day or two if you haven’t yet taken the Lessons 15-16 vocab quiz.
  2. Students who did not take the Lessons 15-16 vocab quiz last Friday will need to take it today or tomorrow.
  3. Work on worksheet #3 in the gerund/participle packet in your groups.
  4. Homework due tomorrow: questions 1-6 of worksheet #3 in the gerund/participle packet.

Tuesday, 10/25

  1. Check answers to the questions 1-6 of worksheet #3 in the gerund/participle packet.
  2. Today’s new learning goal: students will understand the different types of irony.
  3. Read and discuss “Some of Us Had Been Threatening Our Friend Colby,” a story that drips with irony! Then we’ll take a look at a few children’s books that contain irony.
  4. Homework due tomorrow: numbers 7-11 of worksheet #3 in the gerund/participle packet.

Wednesday, 10/26

  1. Check answers to numbers 7-11 of worksheet #3 in the gerund/participle packet.
  2. Work on your irony writing assignment (due Monday).
  3. Homework due tomorrow: complete questions 1-6 of the gerund/participle practice test.

Thursday, 10/27

  1. Check answers to questions 1-6 of the practice test in the gerund/participle packet.
  2. Work on your irony writing assignment (due Monday). Please share your answers with Mr. Hepp on Google Drive.
  3. Homework: complete questions 7-11 of the gerund/participle practice test and the Lesson 1 vocabulary exercises.

Friday, 10/28

  1. Check answers to the Lesson 1 vocabulary exercises and to questions 7-11 of the gerund/participle practice test. You will take the test over this packet on Wednesday of next week.
  2. Finish your irony writing assignment, which is due Monday. Plan to present your assignment to the class.

Monday, 10/31

  1. Analyze two sentences for gerunds/participles.
  2. Students will present their irony book projects today and tomorrow. Volunteers?

Tuesday, 11/1

  1. Analyze two sentences for gerunds/participles. You’ll be taking a test on gerunds and participles tomorrow.
  2. Students will finish presenting their irony book projects today in class.

Thursday, 11/3

  1. Any student who was absent for the grammar test yesterday will need to take it today or tomorrow.

  3. Go to the library and check out a copy of Fahrenheit 451.
  4. Homework due tomorrow: read pages 1-14 of Fahrenheit 451.

Friday, 11/4

  1. Students will assemble into their groups and begin working on the group questions to pages 1-14 of Fahrenheit 451. This assignment is due Tuesday of next week.
