Teaching & Educational Experience:
9/03 – Present Teacher, Granby Memorial Middle School Granby, CT.
Currently Teaching grade 8 Physical Science. Successfully completed BEST portfolio 9/05. Presently certified in both mathematics & science for grades 7-12. I have also taught Special needs mathematics, and grade 7 life science in this position.
1/03 – 6/03 Long-Term Substitute, Granby Memorial Middle School Granby, CT.
(.6 FTE) grade 8 Science. While working in this position I also completed the Student teaching component of the ARC program in Grade 7 mathematics.
10/02-5/03 Education Preparation: ARC II Program – Mathematics (#029).
I have successfully completed the Connecticut teacher certification program, ARC II (Alternate Route to Certification), in the content area of mathematics for grades 7-12 (CT endorsement code #029) as of May 2, 2003.
2/02 - present. (part time) Independent contract tutoring, (various districts).
Providing assistance to students that desire additional academic support but do not qualify for special education services from their districts. Most of my tutoring work has been in math and the physical sciences. I have accepted an increasing number of word-of-mouth referrals from parents and administrators and I now work with students from: Avon, Farmington, Region 10, Ethel Walker School and I expect to begin with students at Miss Porter’s at the completion of my student teaching assignment in early April. Subjects include: Geometry, Chemistry, AP Calculus, Physics, Algebra I, and II.
2/02 – present. (part time) Avon Public Schools, Avon CT.
Tutor for home-bound and special needs students: Tutored students with various emotional, psychological and physical conditions that prevented or inhibited their attendance or performance in regular school classes.
Subjects: Chemistry 10th grade, Geometry 9th grade, Algebra I 10th grade, Literature 10th grade, General math grades 6 & 7, also general instruction reading writing and math for second grade student.
Spring 2002. (part time) University of Hartford Magnet School, West Hartford, CT.
Para-Professional: The first position was for a second grader with special needs. Coached student through various methods of behavior recognition and control practices. Also provided supervision for this student during periods when the student’s behavior necessitated removal from the regular classroom. Created & directed individual lessons and performed assessment and documented this student’s progress for clinical review.
Para-Professional: The second of two positions (full time temporary) was for a kindergarten student that required one-on-one supervision. My function was to redirect inappropriate behavior and provide assistance and behavior management when the student’s behavior necessitated removal from the regular classroom.
Various substitute positions: Kindergarten, first grade, second grade & third grade.
