SUNDAY: AUGUST 7TONE 6

7TH Sunday after Pentecost/ Afterfeast of the Transfiguration

Martyr Dometius of Persia

"Lord I Call..." Tone 6

Lord, I call upon Thee, hear me!

Hearme, O Lord!

Lord, I call upon Thee, hear me!

Receive the voice of my prayer,

when I call upon Thee!

Hearme, O Lord!

Let my prayer arise

in Thy sight as incense,

and let the lifting up of my hands

be an evening sacrifice!

Hearme, O Lord!

v. (10) Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks to Thy name!

(for the Resurrection)

Possessing victory over hell, O Christ,

since Thou art free among the dead,

Thou didst ascend the Cross

raising with Thyself those who sat in the shades of death.//

O Almighty Savior, Who drewest life from Thine

own light, have mercy on us!

v. (9) The righteous will surround me; for Thou wilt deal bountifully with me.

Today Christ tramples on death,

for He is risen as He said!

Let us all sing this song,

for He has granted joy to the world:

O Light unapproachable, O Fountain of life!//

O Savior Almighty, have mercy on us!

v. (8) Out of the depths I cry to thee, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice!

Where shall we sinners flee from Thee, Who art in all creation?

In heaven Thou dwellest!

In hell Thou didst trample on death!

In the depths of the sea?

Even there is Thy hand, O Master!

To Thee we flee, and falling before Thee, we pray://

O Thou who didst rise from the dead, have mercy on us!

v. (7) Let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!

(for the Resurrection, by Anatolios)

In Thy Cross, we glory, O Christ.

We sing and glorify Thy Resurrection.

For Thou art our God,//

and we know no other than Thee.

v. (6) If Thou, O Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But thereis forgiveness with Thee.

Tone 4 (for the Transfiguration)(Called from on high)

Before Thy precious Cross and ThyPassion,

Thou didst take the holy Disciples whom Thou hadst especially chosen,

and went up, O Master, onto Mount Tabor

wishing to show them Thyglory.

When they saw Thee transfigured, shining more brightly than the sun,

they fell on their faces, struck with amazement at Thy might,

and they cried aloud:

“O Christ, Thou art the timeless light and the brightness of the Father,//

even, though, of Thine own will, Thou art manifested in the flesh without

change.”

v. (5) For Thy name’s sake have I waited for Thee, O Lord, my soul has waited for Thy word; my soul has hoped on the Lord.

Thou, Who from all eternity artGod the Word,

and coverestThyself with light as with a garment,

wast transfigured before Thy Disciples,

and didst shine more brightly than the sun.

Moses and Elijah stood by Thy side,

making it plain that Thou art the Lord both of the dead and of the living.

They glorified Thine ineffable dispensation,

Thy mercy and Thygreat condescension,//

by which Thou didst save the world utterly lost in sin.

v. (4) From the morning watch until night, from the morning watch, let Israel hope on the Lord!

O Lord, Who wast born from the Virgin cloud and made flesh,

and wast transfigured on Mount Tabor,

surrounding Thyself with a bright cloud,

the voice of the Father in the presence of the Disciples

plainly declared Thee to be the beloved Son,

one in Essence and sharing the same throne.

Therefore Peter spoke in amazement, not knowing what he said://

“It is good for us to be here, O Benefactor, rich in mercy!”

v. (3) For with the Lord there is mercy and with Him is plenteous redemption, and He will deliver Israel from all his iniquities.

Tone 6 (for Martyr Dometius) (Having set aside)

Having set aside all the enchantment of magic and witchcraft

and the loathsome rites of the Persians, O Dometius,

thou didst flee unto God, Who sustaineth mankind by His wise

providence.

By His name, like an Apostle,

thou didst heal both the afflictions of animals and the ailments of men,

who earnestly came to thee, O chosen of Christ.//

Entreat Him with boldness on behalf of our souls!

v. (2) Praise the Lord, all nations! Praise Him, all peoples!

Thou didst devotethy whole life to the Lord

and fervently didst apply thyself to fasting, O venerable one,

showing forth unfaltering prayer, all-night vigilance,

unceasing praise to God, and a pure and angelic life.

For this thou hast been enriched with the power to work miracles;

and thus thou didsttell your servants to glorify the Lord.//

Entreat Him with boldness on behalf of our souls!

v. (1) For His mercy is abundant towards us; and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever.

Having clothed thyself with the armor of the Cross,

and equipped with the indestructible shield of faith,

thou wast terrifying to the fierce hordes of the demons.

Anointed with steadfast faith and prayers to God,

thou didstdrive them away,

saving from their wicked harm those who walk the path of faith.

O Dometius, chosen of God,//

entreat Him with boldness on behalf of our souls!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Tone 6(for the Transfiguration, by Anatolius)

Prefiguring Thy Resurrection, O Christ our God,

Thou didst take with Thee in Thine ascent of Mount Tabor

Thy three Disciples, Peter, James and John.

When Thou wast transfigured, O Savior,

Mount Tabor was covered with light.

Thy Disciples, O Word, threw themselves downupon the ground,

unable to gaze upon the form that none may see.

The Angels ministered in fear and trembling;

the heavens shook and the earth quaked,//

as they beheld on earth the Lord of Glory.

Now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Tone 6(Theotokion – Dogmatikon)

Who will not bless thee, O most holy Virgin?

Who will not sing of thy most pure childbearing?

The only-begotten Son shone timelessly from the Father,

but from thee He was ineffably incarnate.

God by nature, He became Man for our sake,

not divided into two persons but manifest as One in two natures.

Entreat Him, O pure and all-blessed Lady,//

to have mercy on our souls!

Tone 6(for the Transfiguration)(On the third day)

Having formed the first man, Adam, in Thy loving-kindness, O Christ,

Thou didst revealThyself as a second Adam,

and wast transfigured on Mount Tabor,//

disclosing Thy divinity.

The chosen leaders of grace and the Law were amazed

at Thy Transfiguration on the holy mountain, O Christ.

With them we worship Thee,//

with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Creation is manifestly illumined, O Christ, by Thy Transfiguration,

which, as God, Thou didst reveal on Tabor

to the divine Apostles and to Moses and Elijah,//

as Thou didst shine more brightly than the sun.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Tone 5(for the Transfiguration)

Moses, who saw God,

and Elijah who rode the fiery chariot across the heavens unconsumed,

beheldThee in the cloud at Thy Transfiguration, O Christ.

They testified that Thou art the Maker and fulfillment of the Law and the

Prophets.

with them, O Master, count us also worthy of Thy light,//

that we may sing Thypraises unto all ages!

Tone 6(for the Resurrection)

Thy Resurrection, O Christ our Savior,

the Angels in heaven sing!

Enable us on earth//

to glorify Thee in purity of heart!

v. The Lord is King; He is robed in majesty!

Destroying the gates of hell,

breaking the chains of death,

Thou didst resurrect the fallen human race as almighty God!//

O Lord Who didst rise from the dead, glory to thee!

v. For He has established the world, so that it shall never be moved.

Desiring to return us to Paradise,

Christ was nailed to the Cross and placed in a tomb.

The Myrrhbearing Women sought Him with tears, crying,

“Woe to us, O Savior!

How dost Thou deign to descend to death?

What place can hold Thy life bearing body?

Come to us as Thou didst promise!

Take away our wailing and tears!”

Then the Angel appeared to them:

“Stop your lamentations!

Go, proclaim to the Apostles:

‘The Lord is risen,//

granting us purification and great mercy!’”

v. Holiness befits Thy house, O Lord, forevermore!

Having been crucified as Thou didst will,

by Thy burial Thou didst capture death, O Christ,

rising on the third day as God in glory,//

granting the world unending life and great mercy!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Tone 5(for the Transfiguration)

Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,

to the house of our God,

and behold the glory of His Transfiguration,

the glory of the only-begotten Son of the Father!

Let us receive light from His light!

Let us be uplifted in spirit,//

and forever sing the praises of the consubstantial

Trinity!
