7th grade Statistics Project

You will be creating a poster displaying and comparing statistical information about two related populations ofyour choice. All work will be done in class. Poster board will be provided. You will provide the data and any enhancements (pictures/logos, etc) that you want to use.

Data due by May 1, 2017:

You will provide the data for this project. Choose something that you are interested in, and bring 2 sets of data (10-15 items in each set) that can be compared. Some ideas:

  • Win and loss records of a particular sports team over the course of 10-15 years
  • Win and loss records of 10-15 different teams in the same sport
  • Win records of teams in one division vs teams in another division
  • Fan attendance at 2 different stadiums over the course of 10-15 years
  • Average salary of athletes from 2 different sports over the last 10-15 years
  • Salary of top 10-15 athletes from 2 different sports
  • Age in months of students in 2 different grades
  • Heights/weights/shoe size/etc. of boys vs girls of similar ages
  • Heights/weights/shoe size/etc. of 2 different grades
  • Average daily temperatures of 2 different cities over the course of 10-15 days
  • Average daily temperature of one city over the course of 2 different months, or the same month in 2 different years
  • TV ratings of 2 different shows over the course of 10-15 weeks
  • TV ratings of 10-15 shows from 2 different channels
  • TV ratings of 10-15 comedy shows vs 10-15 dramas over the same time period
  • Movie opening grosses for 2 different months over the course of 10-15 years
  • Sales of 2 competing products over the last 10-15 years

For both sets of data, you will find (this will be done in class):

The lower and upper quartile and interquartile range

The lower and upper extreme

The Mean Absolute Deviation

For both sets of data you will create (this will be done in class):

A box and whiskers plot

A stem and leaf plot

A bar graph or histogram

A dot plot

You will need to develop a short statement analyzing your data
