Explanatory notes

1This unit standard may be used to award credit for the achievement of learning outcomes consistent with Technology in the New Zealand Curriculum (Learning Media Wellington, 1995).

2Instrumental drawings are limited to one, two, or three view third angle orthographic projection using common scales, full sections, dimensioning, and title blocks.

3Site requirements means specified adjustments to suit workplace practice. Examples are individualised titling and architectural dimensioning.

4Initial visualisation of the required views as freehand sketches prior to projection is useful at this level.

5Drawings must comply with standards convention NZ/AS1100.

1.1Drawing and drawing instruments selected are suitable for the task in terms of content and scope.

Rangecontent and scope - type of drawing, number of views, viewpoints, materials and equipment requirements, reference information.

1.2Conventions and standards identified are relevant to the drawing selected.

1.3Preparations for drawing are completed in terms of layout and format.

Rangecould include but is not limited to - setting paper, layout, border.

Outcome 2

Produce the orthographic drawing to scale.

Evidence requirements

2.1Orthographic drawing complies with the brief, and meets final design requirements.

2.2The drawing communicates information as required by the brief.
