Title / Install residential telephone and facsimile equipment

Purpose / This unit standard covers the installation of basic telephones and facsimile machines in domestic premises.
People credited with this unit standard are able to:
–select residential telephone and facsimile equipment;
–install residential telephone and facsimile equipment; and
–commission residential telephone and facsimile equipment.

any applicable company safety and health procedures;

and their subsequent amendments and replacements.

2Definitions

Enterprise practice – those practices and procedures that have been promulgated by the company or enterprise for use by their employees.

Industry practice – those practices, which competent practitioners within the industry recognise as current industry best practice.

Residential telephone services – those typically found providing analogue services in domestic premises.

3Range

Installations involving at least two different types of telephones and two different types of facsimile machines.

Evidence requirements

1.1Selected materials and equipment conform with the requirements of the network to which they connect.

1.2Selected materials and equipment meet design specifications or customer requirements in terms of function and quoted price.

Install residential telephone and facsimile equipment.

Evidence requirements

2.1Preparations meet job requirements.

Rangepreparations – availability of design specifications where appropriate, confirmation of site access, assembly of materials and tools, confirmation of customer needs, consideration of special conditions.

2.2Installation meets the requirements of the network to which it connects, and complies with electrical regulations and industry practice.

2.3Installation meets customer requirements in terms of facilities catered for, tidiness, quoted price.

2.4Installation is in accordance with occupational safety and health regulations and industry safe working practices.

Outcome 3

Commission residential telephone and facsimile equipment.

Evidence requirements

3.1Testing and setting up of equipment confirm operation according to specifications and customer’s requirements.

3.2Customer is instructed in the use of the equipment, and is supplied with relevant manuals and information on whom to contact for maintenance.

3.3Recording of job completion is in accordance with enterprise practice.
