Course Description:
The overall goal of the Henry County math curriculum is to help students develop sound mathematical habits. Units have been developed in six domains: Operations with Rational Numbers, Expressions and Equations, Ratios and Proportional Relationships, Inferences, Geometry, and Probability. It is desirable for the student to keep the “big picture” in mind as they deal with the specific goals in each unit.
Materials:
· Ear buds & flash drive (or personal technology)
· 5 subject spiral notebook
· #2 Pencils (extra pack of erasers may be needed)
· Loose Leaf Paper
· Colored Pencils
· Graph Paper
· Optional items: Glue sticks or tape, pencil sharpener (with container), sheet protectors
Grading Policy:
Students will be given weekly review quizzes as well as unit tests, semester exams, and culminating tasks to determine their grade and mastery of the standards. Each week students will be given an opportunity for remediation and growth. Final grades for each semester are cumulative and will be calculated using the following percentages:
85% Standards Based Mastery (of this 40% comes from Edgenuity and 45% comes from seminar/projects) and 15% Semester Exam.
Topics covered this year:
Operations with Rational Numbers
MCC7.NS.1-3 – Working with fractions, positive and negative numbers
Expressions and Equations
MCC7.EE.1-4 – Solving real world problems dealing with algebra
Ratios and Proportional Relationships
MCC7.RP1-3 & MCC7.G.1 – Comparing to solve real world problems
Inferences
MCC7.SP.1-4 – Collecting and analyzing data
Geometry
MCC7.G.2-6 – Understanding with shapes and angles
Probability
MCC7.SP.5-8 – Determining the likelihood of an event or outcome
Homework Policy:
Homework is designed to enable students to assess their own knowledge of a given topic. Homework is to help a student learn; therefore, we use homework as a tool to help us learn. Please encourage your child to complete all homework assignments at home and bring any questions to class the next day. Homework may consist of completing Edgenuity Assignments or Seminars Assignments. Students should have their notebook with them to assist them when completing all homework as the notebook will have notes and examples to help explain the content.
I look forward to working with you and your child. Working together, I know we can make this a successful year. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
I have read and understand the expectations set forth for me in the syllabus above. I will work to make this year a success.
(Please sign and return this copy during your math class. After we make a copy, your syllabus will be returned and should be placed in your notebook.)
