TEXTS:
Holt Literature and Language Arts, Holt Handbook

Novels provided by CCMS will be assigned throughout the year.

DAILY MATERIALS:
Students must bring a three ring binder with a section for language arts, note book paper, two pencils and an SSR book to class every day. The SSR Book should be a novel or nonfiction of 100 pages or more that can be read quietly if a student completes his or her in-class assignments early.

HOMEWORK:
Students are to record homework assignments in their student handbooks at the beginning of each class period. Assignments will not always be posted online; however, I will do my best to post assignments online for parents and students who are absent. Please, expect 15 minutes of homework every day during the week.

TARDY POLICY:
Students not sitting quietly in their assigned seats when the bell rings will be marked tardy. If a student is marked tardy three or more times in a quarter he or she will receive a grade of N (needs to improve) for citizenship; five times will result in a grade of U (unsatisfactory). See the Student Handbook for more information on citizenship grades.

LATE WORK AND MAKE UP WORK:
Students who are absent have one day to turn in work without penalty for each day of absence. If absent, it is the student’s responsibility to turn in work that was collected on the day of his or her absence. If a student is absent the day of a test, he or she must arrange to come in after school to make up the test. Your teacher will not remind you to do this. Homework will not be accepted late.

GRADING:
All grades entered into the gradebook will be designated as either homework and formative assessments or as summative assessments. Summative assessments include tests, projects and presentations and will count toward 95% of a student’s achievement grade. Homework and formatives assessments will count toward the other 5% of the achievement grade.

Assignments will receive from one to one hundred points. Grades are determined by

the average number of points earned. These averages will be updated and posted in the grade book on a weekly basis. The grade book can be accessed through the schoolwebsite, and parents and students are encouraged to view the grade book on a weekly basis. It is the parents’ responsibility to notice when their child is not doing well in my class. I do not always call home when a student is doing poorly, so please check the grade book on a regular basis and contact me if you have any concerns. The grading scale is as follows: 90%-100% = A, 80%-89% = B, 70%-79% = C, 60%-69% = D, 0%-59% = F. In this class there is no extra credit.

I have read and agree to all the terms in this document.
