6th Grade- Social Studies

Mrs. Jean Lovelace 832-249-5477

Welcome to the sixth grade! We will have a wonderful adventure as we travel around the world.

Our main topic of study will be World Cultures. We will study the geography, economics, government systems, and cultures that shape the world around us.

We will begin the year with a unit covering the geography skills needed for the trip. Our itinerary includes traveling to North & South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. We will also explore Europe, Russia and Australia.

TOOLS: For our journey, you will need a few items. Make sure you bring these items to class with you EVERYDAY:

· Blue/Black/Red Pens

· Pencils

· 70 page spiral

· Map Pencils

· Folder

Grades:

Grades are a part of our journey. They reflect your effort, progress and commitment to your success. You will have two types of grades: minor and major grades. Minor grades will make up 40% of your average and major grades will make up 60% of your average. All assignments are expected to be turned in on the due date. Late Work will be penalized.

· If you miss a day of our journey, it is your responsibility to make up any missing assignments.

· TEST DAYS: MONDAYS/WEDNESDAYS. TUTORING DAYS: FRIDAYS

· Please refer to my web page and the Family/Student Access tab on the Klein ISD homepage throughout the year to stay current with your child’s progress.

Expected Behavior:

· Be seated before the tardy bell rings and begin filling in your CAT.

· Listen silently when the teacher or another student is speaking.

· Treat people and property with respect at all times – If it isn’t yours – Leave it alone.

· The teacher, not the bell, will dismiss you.

· Cell phones/electronic equipment must be put away.

· Set goals and work to achieve them.

Textbook: There will be a set of textbooks for students to use during class. There is an online version of the textbook with great resources that students can use at home. Log in information will be distributed as soon as possible.

Interactive Notebook:

The interactive notebook is an important part of the class curriculum. Students must bring their interactive notebook with them to class everyday. Additional information regarding the interactive notebook will be sent home with your child during the first week of school.

We are off to an exciting trip around the world and I am looking forward to a wonderful year. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail.
