Course Name: Who wants to be a Millionaire? with Mrs. Kuhrts

Course Description: If you would like to learn more about Economics, Currency, and Personal Finance, then this is the course for you! Students will discuss supply and demand, goods and services, characteristics of entrepreneurs, and focus on making financial decisions based on real-life scenarios. Students will be assigned a career and salary, and will participate in simulations of managing daily living expenses and making wise purchasing decisions.

Course Name: Math Adventures with Mrs. Levery

Course Description: Students taking this class will begin by studying some geometric concepts and the history of flexagons. Students will create three different kinds of flexagons and discover their movement. Tangrams will also be discussed and explored. The second part of this course will involve using place value to add and subtract a sequence of numbers to score a series of points from dice. Chance and probability will be discuss as they apply to the dice game.

Course Name: Geometrocity with Mrs. Newland

Course Description: Students will take their geometry skills to another level and design their own city. Students will create a city that uses 2D and 3D, practicing both plane and solid geometry. Students will utilize many types of geometric skills such as building nets to create buildings and structures, along with designing parts of a city with shapes, lines, angles, and more!

Course Name: Lights, Camera, Action! with Mrs. Reid

Course Description: Want to know more about your favorite TV sitcom or drama? Want to know what to look for on commercials and advertisements so you don’t fall for their tricks? Then this is the course for you! In this class, students will learn about the powerful medium of TV. We will learn to take a more critical look at the sitcoms and dramas that are on TV by learning about the visual and sound techniques, as well as the plot devices. We will dig deep to see how many TV programs present an unrealistic picture of the world. We will also learn all about the tricks in media advertising and we’ll become aware of the ploys used by advertisers.

Course Name: Destination: Awesome! with Mrs. Weter

Course Description: Given $10,000, explore a country of your choice! Learn some of the language, go sightseeing, try new foods and come back to tell us about your adventure! Create digital presentation to share with your peers. Convince them that your trip is the most exciting to take.

Course Name: Engineering Bridges with Ms. Van Black

Course Description: Students will learn how bridges are designed to meet load, stress, and aesthetic challenges. Students work in teams to design and build a bridge out of popsicle sticks that can withstand a set amount of weight. Teams test their bridge, evaluate their own results and those of other students, and present their findings.
