CineSource Magazine Awards Edgy Short That Delivers Perfect Love.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The Caligari Narrative Award Ceremony was held at West Oakland’s Lobot Gallery in 2008. There, CineSource Magazine awarded first place to the winning script by Leo Maselli (aka Skip Bellevue) and David Asher, A Lovely AdultBeverage. The screenplay was rated the “runaway best” of the submissions by all four judges - scriptwriting teacher Denise Bostrum, writer James Dalessandro, film teacher Toney Merritt, and noted director Rob Nilsson. According to CineSource publisher Doniphan Blair, Caligari was a character in a silent German film made in 1919 that has become a cult film entitled Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
What makes A Lovely Adult Beverage a one-of-a-kind film are it’s imaginatively few elements, its single stylized set and an ensemble of perfectly tuned actors. Mr. Blair described the film as “an operatic drama that’s extremely entertaining.”
The film’s producer, Ilena Ferrer, reports that the principal parties have finally overcome the film’s legal issuesand as a result,the film has been shot and is now being readied for distribution in the spring of 2015.
The story centers around Carlos, a Chilean poet, who witnesses a blind date going sour. The young man on the date is uncomfortable that the woman he’s been matched with is confined to a wheelchair. Carlos immediately recognizes the opportunity for a foray into new territory and a totally unexpected love story unfolds.
The film will premier on Sunday, March 7, 2015 at the Scary Cow Film Festival at San Francisco’s Castro Theater. Scary Cow is a San Francisco-based indie film incubator focused on improving locally made films.
