REGISTRATION DEADLINE:

Registration will occur online: under the registrationlink. The online forms include a Team Roster, Team Picture, Team History and Banquet Ticket Order Form. Deadline for Registration is Monday, March 16th @ 12:00noon.

BANQUET/MEAL FUNCTION:

Attendance at the banquet is compulsory for all team members and coaches.Banquet tickets must be ordered online on the Team Order Form by Monday, March 16, 2009 @ 12:00noon. The brunch will be semi-formal, so please have your team dress appropriately (no jeans or sweats please). Since most teams are going directly from the Opening Ceremonies to the banquet at HuntingHillsHigh School, they may not have an opportunity to change out of their team jersey top. This is acceptable, given the timelines, as long as they are not wearing jeans or sweats as part of their attire.

Entry Fee:$360.00per team

Banquet Fee: $25/person

Your official party consists of all team players, coaches and managers. All official team members will receive souvenir ID participant passes for the tournament. The passes will be distributed to the teams Wednesday evening when they have their team picture taken.

Receipts for the tournament entry fee will be issued by Gino Castellan on Friday, March 20, 2009. Please ensure you obtain your receipt the weekend of the tournament.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

Rooms have been block booked for the tournament at various hotels within Red Deer. The listing and contact information is posted on the website under the accommodation link.

When booking your rooms, please mention ASAA 4A High School Provincial Basketball Championships to ensure you receive the group rate offered. Rooms have ONLY been block booked for teams. Any families wishing to book rooms should do so on their own and not use any of the block booked rooms as there are only enough to accommodate teams attending provincials, not spectators. The Red Deer Lodge is the Host Hotel for the 2009 ASAA 4A Basketball Provincials.

TEAM HOST/HOSTESS:

Each team will be assigned a host/hostess at their competition venue. These people will lead you during the opening ceremonies and will be available to assist you and your team during the competition. Your host/ hostess will provide directions to tournament events and will be on site during your matches to provide any assistance you may require. They will go out of their way to make you feel welcome while in Red Deer.

Team Pictures/Accreditation:

The ASAA requires team photographs for its yearbook. All teams will have their pictures taken between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM on Wednesday, March 18th. Teams are expected to sign up for their team pictures when they register. Please contact Terence McMullen atLTCHS @ (403) 314-2020if you have any questions or concerns. The photographs will be taken in the Fine Arts Room @ Notre Dame.

Players, coaches & parents can order commemorative 8X10 team photos for $10.00 when the photos are taken. Photographs will be taken byJohn Jewell. Each team will receive a complimentary team photograph.

Team Picture Schedule:TBD. Please check the website once all teams are finalized into the tournament draw and accreditation pictures will be set up as of Monday, March 16, 2009.

COACHES MEETING:

There will be a coaches meeting at 9:15PM on Wednesday March 18thinthe Notre Dame Amphitheatre. Please ensure you have a representative at this meeting as this is where pertinent championship information is provided and fees are collected.

Entry fee and banquet fees must be brought to the Coaches Meeting.

OPENING CEREMONIES/CLOSING CEREMONIES:

The Opening Ceremonies will take place on Thursday, March 19th @ 9:30 AM in the Notre Dame High School Main Gym. Please assemble your team in Cafeteria/Gathering Areaby 9:00 AM so we can organize the teams. Please have your athletes come dressed in their uniforms or team apparel. (Note: NO jeans or sweats unless your team has time to change after the Opening Ceremonies. Teams will leave right from the Opening Ceremonies to attend the banquet. Notre Dame and HuntingHillsHigh School are walking distance apart, so teams will go from one school to the other immediately following the Opening Ceremonies – there may not be time to change attire.)

Closing Ceremonies and medal presentations will take place after the Bronze Medal Match and after the Gold Medal Match. Only teams playing in the medal matches are required to take part in the ceremony.

PRACTICE/WARM UP BALLS:

All basketballs will be provided by Hunting Hills, Lindsay Thurber and Notre Dame for team practices & pre-game warm-ups. Do NOT bring basketballs from your school.

TEAM ROOMS/CHANGE ROOMS/SHOWER FACILITIES:

Shower facilities and change rooms will be available for use at all 3 venues. No valuables should be left in the change rooms. Please note: Red Deer Public School District & Red Deer Catholic District are not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Please ensure valuables are safely stored.

COACHES & OFFICIALS ROOM:

A hospitality room will be available for coaches and officials throughout the tournament. A variety of snacks, hot food & beverages will be available.

MEDICAL:

Teams must bring their own medical supplies and plan to do their own taping. Ice will be provided as required.

CAFETERIA/CONCESSION:

A full service cafeteria will be available at all 3 venues on Thursday& Friday serving a variety of nutritious items.

Concessions will also be set up at all 3 venues, Thursday, Friday and Saturday to supplement the cafeteria.

SOUVENIR APPAREL:

Souvenir apparel can be purchased from “Gimmics”during the Provincial Championship weekend.

SPECTATOR ADMISSION/PROGRAM:

Spectators will be required to pay a daily admission or purchase a tournament pass. Day passes will be valid at both the 4A Girls Tournament at Lindsay Thurber and the 4A Boys Tournament at Notre Dame on the date of purchase only. The TournamentPass is valid at both venues the entire weekend. Spectators must present their passes at the gate each time they enter a venue.

PARKING:

Lindsay Thurber:

All visitors will be able to park in the over-flow(gravel) parking lot to the west of Lindsay Thurber (directly north of CamilleJ.LerougeSchool). All busses are to park to the north of the MemorialCenter in the large gravel lot.

Notre Dame:

All busses to park on Lees Street. Additional spectator parking may be accessed at the CollicuttCenter.

Hunting Hills:

All busses to park on Lees Street. Additional spectator parking may be accessed at the CollicuttCenter.

RULES/POLICY:

It is incumbent upon all coaches and participants to be aware of ASAA Policy. Specifically for this event, player eligibility (pp 37-40), supervision policy (pg 43) and basketball policy (pp 73-82).

SPORTSMANSHIP:

Sportsmanship is vitally important and highly valued by the ASAA. A Sportsmanship Trophy will be awarded to the team that displays appropriate conduct & sportsmanship both individually and at a team level throughout the Championship. Pins will be handed out throughout the Championship to individuals & spectators who display sportsmanship in their words & actions. The sportsmanship committee will consist of: the two Tournament Co-chairs,a minimum of two other Tournament Committee Members, and an ABOA Representative. These will be the people responsible for selecting the recipients of these awards.

DISCIPLINE AND MISCONDUCT:

Breaches of the ASAA Code of Ethics are treated seriously, and as host, [we] are required to report any breaches to the ASAA office where action may occur. A portion of the ASAA Code of Ethics states, “Any conduct, including, but not limited to ejections, fighting and drugs and alcohol use, that results in dishonor to the athlete, the team, the school or the ASAA will not be tolerated.” (pp 28-29)

GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE

All ASAA provincial championship hosts will convene a discipline/appeal committee. The committee will have the authority to address issues of a serious nature that may occur before, during or after a provincial championship match, or to hear appeals of the automatic suspension resulting from an ejection (see ASAA 2008/09 Policy Handbook). The committee may include, but not be limited to, the tournament chairperson, an official and two coaches not in conflict with the issue.Coaches wishing to volunteer may do so at the coach’s meeting.

SCHEDULE/DRAW:

See attached, Appendix A for the schedule as approved by the ASAA.

EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN:

Each facility will have their own Emergency Exit routes in the unlikely event of a fire or other emergency. Only front entrances will be open for entry into the building(s). Each gymnasium has emergency exit doors which will be utilized if necessary. Upon exiting the building, all coaches are responsible to ensure their team members are kept in a group and need to report any athletes unaccounted for to a member of the organizing committee. Further instructions in emergency situations will be dealt with as instructed by Red Deer Emergency Services personnel.

50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION:

As a special addition to this year’s 4A Provincial Basketball Championships, the ASAA is also recognizing the 50th Anniversary of thefirst girls’ provincial championship between Stettler and Wrentham. Many of the athletes from both participating teams will be in attendance at the 4A Provincials and will be an integral part of the weekend. This highlights the history of girl’s basketball in Alberta and its development and growth over the years.
