Monday

Spiral Review (10 min) / Students will answer three SCI/SS questions from present and previous units; test on Friday.
Text Study (20 minutes) / SS: 4-4: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the beginnings of America as a nation and the establishment of the new government.
Students will play Government Jeopardy
Independent/Collaborative Activity (30 minutes) / SCI: 4-2 Students will demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics and patterns of behavior that allow organisms to survive in their own distinct environments.
Introduce Organisms and Habitats Unit to students.

Tuesday

Spiral Review (10 min) / Students will answer three SCI/SS questions from present and previous units; test on Friday.
Text Study (20 minutes) / SCI: 4-2.1 Classify organisms into major groups (including plants or animals, flowering or nonflowering plants, and vertebrates [fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals] or invertebrates) according to their physical characteristics.
Read Lesson One (Classify Organisms into Major Groups) text together, whole class. Take notes in the margins of the text and highlight important parts.
Independent/Collaborative Activity (30 minutes) / SS: 4-4: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the beginnings of America as a nation and the establishment of the new government.
Students will play Government Jeopardy

Wednesday

Spiral Review (10 min) / Students will answer three SCI/SS questions from present and previous units; test on Friday.
Text Study (20 minutes) / SS: 4-5: The student will demonstrate an understanding of westward expansion of the United States and its impact on the institution of slavery.
Introduce Westward Expansion Unit to students.
Independent/Collaborative Activity (30 minutes) / SCI: 4-2.1 Classify organisms into major groups (including plants or animals, flowering or nonflowering plants, and vertebrates [fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals] or invertebrates) according to their physical characteristics.
Use video clips, powerpoints, and SMARTBoard activities to demonstrate and discuss classifying organisms into major groups with the students.

Thursday

Spiral Review (10 min) / Students will answer three SCI/SS questions from present and previous units; test on Friday.
Text Study (20 minutes) / SCI: 4-2.2 Explain how the characteristics of distinct environments (including swamps, rivers and streams, tropical rain forests, deserts, and the polar regions) influence the variety of organisms in each.
Read Lesson Two (Environments) text together, whole class. Take notes in the margins of the text and highlight important parts.
Independent/Collaborative Activity (30 minutes / SS: 4-5.1: Summarize the major expeditions that played a role in westward expansions including those of Daniel Boone, Lewis and Clark, and Zebulon Pike.
Read Lesson One (Expeditions) text together, whole class. Take notes in the margins of the text and highlight important parts.

Friday

Spiral Review (10 min) / SPIRAL REVIEW QUIZ
Text Study (20 minutes) / SS: 4-5.1: Summarize the major expeditions that played a role in westward expansions including those of Daniel Boone, Lewis and Clark, and Zebulon Pike.
Use USA Studies Weekly, video clips, powerpoints, and SMARTBoard activities to demonstrate and discuss major expeditions, Daniel Boone, and Zebulon Pike with the students.
