Functional Summary
In my position as a translator/interpreter for the Canadian Embassy, I was required to translate for all department heads including the Ambassador, Political Officer, Military Attaché, Immigration Officer and the administrative section. I gained valuable knowledge and experience in being able to translate in a variety of fields from political to commercial, in an office environment, where I also gained experience in using various computer packages. I was also responsible to advise, on a daily basis, the Ambassador and Political Officer of current political activities, changes to political parties and general newspaper/magazine articles related to political matters, commerce and relations between Canada and Turkey. Due to my ability to work harmoniously with others and to multitask, I was also asked to act as Public Affairs Assistant. In this capacity, I assisted the Consular section and dealt with Turkish and Canadian citizens as well as people of other nationalities applying for immigrant or refugee status, and assisted them, occasionally in difficult or urgent diplomatic situations.
