Protocol for Poster & Portfolio

Each student will need to prepare a poster and show his/her portfolio (lab note book) to their lab instructor by the last laboratory meeting. You choose the layout, which include notes, narrative, conclusions and original drawings in your notebook. Your poster should contain/demonstrate the following:

1. (d) A digital introduction to you, as an organism and as a student. Please be sure your chosen image includes enough of you to allow recognition (preferably facial).

  1. (k) A labeled image of each of the Eukaryotic kingdoms of life.
  1. (c) A scanned or digital image of a drawing of two organisms you have observed interacting. You may spot them under a microscope or on a walk or outside of lab. Draw them (including scale-how big are they compared to your drawing?) and scan your drawing into your portfolio. The interaction does not have to be direct. If you see two animals eating the same type of food they are potential interactors and are fair game for this component.
  1. (s) An Excel graph of data collected and analyzed in the laboratory. We will do this several times and you will select your two favorites for inclusion in your poster.
  1. (i) Scan something you draw. You will need to practice this as drawing methods do not all scan well. Make sure your final drawing choices contain a scale depiction and are carefully labeled (date, artist, subject, etc.)
  1. (l) At some points in the lab you will see different stages of development of members of most of the kingdoms. You may capture each stage as a drawing or a digital image. You may want to prepare for this component by outlining development in each kingdom so you know what to look for. You need the major stages for your chosen organism but can include labeled stages for other organisms as extra credit.
  1. (r) We will allow the Giant Hissing Roaches to crawl all over us and draw their route with a permanent marker. Each person with a roach route on their bodies will then roll in a solution of radioactive iodine that will highlight the roach map and transfer easily to a GIS format for presentation in the portfolio.
  1. (h) This component is finished as we collect the images during completion of the scavenger hunt as portfolios are introduced.
