Explanatory notes
1All tasks are to be carried out in accordance with enterprise procedures, the enterprise being the organisation carrying out the work. Enterprise procedures referred to in this unit standard are the applicable procedures found in the following:enterprise exposition; manufacturer publications; Government and local body legislation;airworthiness authority requirements.

Evidence requirements
1.1Component identity is confirmed with documentation by comparing serial and part numbers.
1.2Task is established and documented in accordance with enterprise procedures.
1.3Work area is prepared and resources obtained in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Rangepublications, materials, tooling, equipment, safety equipment, environmental conditions.

Preparea peening machine.
Evidence requirements
2.1Peening machine is prepared in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Rangecondition checked, set up, adjusted, made safe to use.
2.2Media is prepared in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Rangesize, type, quality.
2.3Almen test strip is prepared in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Rangeair pressure, media type and weight, Almen strip type, time and distance.
2.4Almen strip curvature is measured in accordance with enterprise procedures.
2.5Machine is set for task requirement in accordance with enterprise procedures.

Outcome 3
Peen components.
Evidence requirements
3.1Component is masked in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Rangeholes, protected areas.
3.2Component is peened in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Rangetime, distance.
3.3Masking is removed from component in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Outcome 4
Inspect peened components.
Evidence requirements
4.1Component is measured and checked for conformity with specifications.
Rangedimensional and/or angular accuracy, profile, surface finish.
4.2Defects are reported, recorded, and rectified in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Outcome 5
Prepare components for use.
Evidence requirements
5.1Component is prepared for use, storage, or transit in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Rangeinhibiting, cleaning, packing.
5.2Documentation is completed in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Outcome 6
Carry out task completion activities.
Evidence requirements
6.1Completion activities specific to the task and work area are carried out in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Rangeactivities may include but are not limited to – tool control, cleanliness, tidiness, return of publications, preparation for next activity, return of aircraft and systems to normal.
6.2Leftover items, parts, and materials are disposed of in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Rangemay include but is not limited to – serviceable, unserviceable, surplus, waste, scrap, hazardous.
