Attendance Committee: This committee handles requests if a student has loss of credit. Important to document a plan of action and a contract is needed for each student. Students cannot pick up trash for credit, it must be ACADEMIC; tutoring, before or after school classes… The Committee is a 2 year term, same members from last year were approved. Sergio Mendez, Steve Scallorn, Elda Acosta, Rudy Troncoso, Luis Cardenas, Yusaleth Perez, Lily Triplett, Martin Sanchez and Mr. Pena.
Placement Review Committee : This committee determines student placement when a teacher refuses the return of a student. Members include: Luis Cardena, Debbie Hernandez, Ana Trillo – Alternate, Martin Sanchez – appointed by Administration.
6. Request to Change the Name of the Dance Team to Yolilitzli (meaning Spirit). Cihuapilli meant princess and with males joining dance it was no longer appropriate. Motion approved.
7. Make it Count – Mr. Pena will continue to go on the intercom at 10:40 to take roll at that time. It’s imperative that role is taken at 10:40 A.M. that time is dictated by the state to credit the school for each student’s presence. Bracelets will continue to be passed out for an extra ten minutes for lunch to students who qualify. Rene noted that SUBS are not informed of this 10:40 announcement or what this means, so please make it clear on your instructions for the sub to wait for that time to take roll. The district wants improvement of .5% . We met .3% improvement last year as a district.
A reminder to all teachers that lesson plans MUST to be uploaded to AESOP when you call in an absence.
8. AVID Demonstration Site – We will have visitors throughout the year looking for strategies and practices being implemented throughout the entire campus. We need 100% participation from the teachers to make it work. Mrs. Paugh has noted seeing Kagan strategies being implemented in Mrs. Berumen’s and Mr. Mendez’ classes and she saw the students engaged. We need to implement our Best Practice Strategies whenever possible. Tanya Gallegos stated we need to increase the AVID program to include 10% of the population, the strategies need to be practiced school wide and become the culture of the school to include student organization, use of student binder, tutorials and professional development needs, trainings, … All teachers must USE the BINDERS. The AVID visit will be intense and a recommendation will follow.
9. Fundamental Five in Every Classroom – Practice good instruction; All teachers must post the essential question, objectives and closing task in view. All students need to be writing somehow in every class - use the exit ticket to implement daily writing, teach in the power zone, and draw on the energy during staff development.
10. From Your Counselor – they are down to 5 counselors and are very short handed, please be patient they are working diligently to finish changes in a few days. Mrs. Paugh is trying to get another counselor ASAP.
11. Annette Mosivais and Yosci Hernendez (At RISK) – They are sending out Silver and Espie (from the library) to meet with At Risk students to work one on one, mentoring, and improving scores and grades. The District is providing binders for students who cannot afford one, see Yuzaleth Perez for the free binders.
Printers – only Math and Science are currently networked, they are working on the others and fine tuning, please be patient. Teachers will have 2,500 copies a month. Curriculum coaches will run copies for 3, 6 & 9 weeks assessments.
12. EOC – We have received the EOC summer re-test scores.
Of the 9th graders who re-tested:
500 still have not passed Eng I Rd
990 still have not passed Eng I Wtg
190 still have not passed Bio
290 still have not passed Alg I
155 still have not passed W Hist
312 still have not passed W Geo
This year EOC score will count as 15% of the student’s final grade. Again ALL teachers provide writing in ALL areas, list the objective, frame the question, and use the exit ticket. All of us need to do that. If one person does not, they make a conscious decision for the entire campus. We need to model, provide samples, have expectations of a well written paper for the students to follow suit. The TEA websites provides samples of persuasive and expository writing. High expectations are crucial.
13. AYP – The AYP accountability ratings have been made public.
14. In light of the EOC data, it is important that we continue to focus on the importance of teacher planning. The administration was concerned that the initial team meetings were during the instructional day. Although teacher can certainly meet during their common conference, the administration cannot facilitate a team meeting during the day. As full time employees, we work a regular week of 40 hours (although no policy states specific hours). 8 – 4 Monday – Friday gives us a 40 hour week. If teachers are coming in at 8:10 even 3 times a week, we need to make sure we are making up the time (30 minutes) to work a full week. We ask that teachers come in or stay after school an extra 30 minutes one day a week, or come in early or stay late 15 minutes – twice a week. Please let your admin know when you will be meeting. Please reference Policy DEA – Teachers are exempt from Wage/Hour law as we are professional salaried employees.
This year more than ever, it’s important to meet as the accountability we face is tremendous. Our efforts will reflect the outcome. TASK PREDICTS PERFORMANCE.
15. Homework Schedule – We have to be cognizant of the schedule and homework needs to be valuable, no busy work. We have agreed to use the homework schedule as a due date schedule. Remember that the kids are taking 8 classes, and we cannot expect the kids to complete homework for all 8 classes.
16. From Mr. Pena – students are being paired with counselors for any student related issues, please refer to counselor alpha schedule.
