3rd Attenborough Guides Newsletter September 2016

We hope you all had a good summer and are looking forward to a very busy and fun year. Apologies for the lengthy newsletter this half term.

We welcome Miriam, Scarlet, Rose and Alexis who are joining us as new Guides. We hope they all enjoy their time with us.

Subs;Subs for the term are now due, £27 covering September – December. Subs can be paid in cash or cheque (payable to 3rd Attenborough Guides), or we now have the facility for you to pay straight into the bank or set up a standing order. Please see Tonya if you wish to use this facility.

Contact Details;Your daughter will have brought home a copy of the details we currently hold for her. Please could you check the details, amend as necessary, sign and return as soon as possible. These details are essential to ensure the safety and well-being of your daughter at Guides.

Trips; We would like to remind all Guides that it is their responsibility to bring back any forms and money for trips on or before the required date. It leaves us in a very awkward position when girls do not, as some trips must be booked and paid for in advance. If we do not receive forms and money back when required, we will assume that you do not wish to take part in that particular activity.

Uniform; Please remind your daughter that uniform should be worn every week, unless we are having a special evening. Uniform is an official Guide top, BLUE or DARK trousers or skirt (jeans are fine), necker, sensible shoes (that she can run in), promise and other badges. Our unit hoodie is optional.

Please see our unit website if you are unsure of the uniform your daughter should have. If you are having any problems with this, please let us know.

Camp Blankets; The girls decided some time ago that instead of sewing their many badges onto their uniform, they would put them onto their camp blankets. There seems to be some confusion about what this entails.

A camp blanket can be any blanket or large fleece. The official guide camp blanket is available at £9, but a large piece of fleece from a fabric shop or a fleece from Ikea is fine. If you are in any doubt about what your daughter requires or would like to see one in action, please let us know.

Unit Sweatshirts; We will be putting in an order for more of our unit sweatshirts shortly. Please see the attached letter for more details.

Absence; A reminder that due to the high demand for places at Guides, unless informed prior to the meeting, we will assume that non-attendance for three consecutive weeks means that your child no longer requires her place and it will be offered to the next person on our waiting list.

International Talk like a pirate day! We will be taking part in this, especially as it fits in with our Swallows and Amazons challenge that we are working on this half term. Girls may come dressed as a pirate if they wish and with their best ARRRR!

Bouldering; We will be going to an indoor climbing centre to do a spot of Bouldering (climbing sideways essentially) in the centre of Nottingham on 10th October. this trip parents will need to fill in the usual Girlguiding form (attached) plus an online form for the climbing centre. Go here

to fill this in. Deadline for the forms and money is 3rd October.

Social Media;Just to remind you that we have many ways to keep you up to date with the things we get up to at Guides.
